Leave the Light On: A Memoir of Recovery and Self-Discovery
This was a truly amazing book. Jennifer Storms first book, Blackout Girl was an amazingly honest memoir, and the follow up book was just what I wanted to read after I finished Blackout Girl. There are not many books out there at all on recovery memoirs. Most substance abuse memoirs end with rehab, but Storm dedicated a whole book to her recovery, the bad and the good times. I recommend all her writings to everyone I know!

Smart choice for YA and Adults!,

This review is from: Leave the Light On: A Memoir of Recovery and Self-Discovery (Paperback)
As a companion book to Blackout Girl: Growing Up and Drying Out in America, Leave the Light On is equally powerful and well written. Using brief chapters, Storm relates her story of post-recovery life in a relaxed prose that feels more like an old friend talking with you than an author relating the facts of her life. This casual tone does not take away from the poignant moments that helped define Storm's life and put her on a path to becoming a functioning human being. Sometimes sad, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, and sometimes frightening, the story is one that is easy to relate to because the narration is so personable and straightforward. A solid choice for young adults and adults. Reading Blackout Girl: Growing Up and Drying Out in America first is not a must, but is helpful to better understand the long road the author has taken.

I started with J. Storm's first book, blackout girl. You can not read it, without knowing what happened to this girl? In Leaving the light on, you dont only find out. You read about her struggles to keep sober, to start over. A lot of books are written about the period of addiction, but never how it went further. In this book, if you read not only each and every page with pleasure and attention. Between the lines, you can read many guidelines to survive life, without a relapse. Cause so many people faill recovery, and have to start over again. In this book you will find consolation, hope, guidance, support and so much more. The most acknowledgement of how to start over, the struggles that will appear on your path to happyness and a new life. This book can be just the guide you have been looking for. It will help! Recognise yourself in her written words, between the lines and experiences. For family members of people struggling with addiction. This is a great tool to help you have insight, patience, love and provide help for your loved one that is struggling.
And extra comment, I would like to state, that in the gay community, so many struggle with addiction. This book is highly recommended, not only to help with your recovery, but also of finding yourself and be more then okay with yourself. To live your life in the open! It is possible! Read this book and find out... How you can leave the light on in your life!

Recovering from assault and addiction is an endeavor none should have to face. "Leave the Light On: A Memoir of Recovery and Self-Discovery" is a sequel to Jennifer Storm's earlier memoir 'Blackout Girl'. Focusing on the long road to recovery, she tries to live her life free from drugs, facing her past mistakes and tragedies when trying to learn to love once more. "Leave the Light On" is poignant and a reminder that recovery is always possible.

Great follow-up to Blackout Girl. It was great to learn what happened after she found recovery. This is a great resource for anyone in early recovery or someone wanting to know more about recovery. I must read, I could not put down.
