3.0 out of 5 stars It was alright
Nothing special with this book. It centered around the sex scenes which didn't really add any additional interest to the overall story. I think the characters weren't as appealing as I would have liked. I was kind of ambivalent as to the final outcome because I didn't really connect with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Contemporary Double Love Story!, February 24, 2010
This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
HelenKay Dimon's fans will be overjoyed to hear her next Kensington Brava contemporary romance, LEAVE ME BREATHLESS (March 2010) features two confirmed bachelor brothers, who have finally met their perfect matches. In Washington, DC, heartthrob judge, Bennett Walker's, life has been threatened and his car has even been bombed when he was with fellow judge, Emma Blanton. Although Ben's ex-military and thinks he can handle the situation himself, his older brother, Mark, who works for Homeland Security, hires former FBI agent, Callie Robbins to guard Ben at the courthouse under the guise of being his new personal assistant. Callie even has a desk set up in Ben's office and follows him into the courtroom so they're together 10 hours a day. Ben doesn't see how the petite Callie can protect him but soon discovers the feisty blonde is more than qualified to be his bodyguard. Callie is very attracted to Ben but is wary of having a personal relationship with him while she's on the job. Also, Callie thinks Ben is involved with Emma even though he assures her that he and Emma are just long-time friends. Emma has had a thing for Ben's brother, Mark for years but Mark wants just sex from Emma with no commitment. Callie and Ben can't keep their hands off each other and both figure their affair will end when Ben's life is no longer in danger. However, it's soon Callie's life that's in peril and Ben realizes that Callie means the world to him. Will Ben and Mark open themselves to love with two wonderful women, Callie and Emma, and be able to put their troubled childhood behind them? HelenKay Dimon really delivers with her latest Brava contemporary, LEAVE ME BREATHLESS. Romance fans couldn't ask for a better double love story about two dynamic couples that have equal chemistry and passion with a darn good suspense to solve as well. Don't miss LEAVE ME BREATHLESS!

4.0 out of 5 stars Take a Deep Breath and Enjoy The Ride, April 28, 2010

This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
I love Helenkay Dimon's style of writing. Snappy, witty dialogue, complicated family dynamics, a hot alpha male and a take no prisoners heroine collide for a combination that can't go wrong in Leave Me Breathless.

Callie Robbins ex-FBI agent, is a firecracker with a smart-aleck mouth, a quick wit and attitude out the ying-yang. Judge Bennett Walker never stood a chance once Callie was assigned to protect him after a threat on his life.

Bennett Walker may be the cock-o-the-walk around the courthouse, but he's met his match in Callie. She's not the least bit intimidated by the Judge or his formidable black robe (what do Judges where under those robes anyway O_o?) and she lets him know it just about every chance she gets. Ben is dead set against a bodyguard and a woman no less (sheesh he's an ex-marine - he can look after himself!), but his protests fall on deaf ears as Callie just shuts him up with a volley of one-liners and verbal zingers. She's stuck like glue on the good Judge whether he likes it or not...and surprisingly he likes it!

Just a little sample of one line delivered early on by Callie to Ben that had me snickering: "I was going to call you a douche and the bag you came in, but I thought you'd have me arrested." Something about that line just struck my funny bone.

In fact the night I started this book at the gym, someone commented to me that the book must be good since I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading it. Certainly a good sign that this book was going to be an enjoyable read and make peddling all those miles a little less arduous.

I wasn't 100% sold on the suspense plot and who the threat turned out to be or their reasons for going after Ben, or Emma or Callie whoever the intended target turned out to be (you are going to have to find out for yourself by reading the book if you want to know), but it served it's purpose and brought Callie and Ben together and I can live with that.

The real draw for me in Leave me Breathless was the relationship between Callie and Ben. It's what kept me hooked and reading till the end. The secondary romance featuring Ben's brother Mark - Mr. Homeland Security Agent with no time for a personal life was a nice added bonus. That poor boy was a commitment phobe if ever there was one. Once he got his head out of his arse and embraced the love of his own good women, it was nice to see him get his HEA as well.

You really can't go wrong with a HKD novel....at least I haven't been disappointed yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars An edge of your seat read, April 21, 2010
This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
I saw the cover and title and was intrigued with this book. When I read the back cover blurb, I knew I had to read it. It lived up to it's promise. Wow! Ms. Dimon knows how to keep the tension ratcheted up and the reader on the edge of his or her seat. Add suspense and sizzling hot to the mix and this book has it all.
Thank you for a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathlessly good!, March 15, 2010
By
This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
Bennett Walker isn't your typical judge. He's gorgeous, tough, and former military -no hiding behind the robe for him. Callie Robbins is equally gorgeous and equally tough, former FBI - hired to keep the good judge safe and sound. Sparks are guaranteed to fly!

Callie Robbins took the assignment to guard her boss's brother, the Honorable Bennett Walker, after threats against him have begun to escalate. She didn't expect him to be pleased about the situation, but she could never have anticipated the instant attraction sizzling between them. Callie had a bad experience with her superior at the FBI and while most women would have been professionally weakened by the experience, it only served to make Callie stronger and more determined than ever to do her job to the best of her ability. Ben Walker proves to be a challenge from the start. He may not want Callie as his "bodyguard" but he can think of several other things he'd like to do with her.
Bennett Walker is taking the threats against him very seriously, regardless of how nonchalant he's acting around his brother. Dark secrets have hung heavily on them both for years and they owe their every strength and success to their past. Callie is a bit of a wise-ass and Ben, rather than being turned off by it, finds her sarcasm and eagerness to banter with him surprisingly stimulating. Almost as soon as Ben gets used to having Callie around as his protector, the threats expand to encompass Callie and his concerns about his own safety are forgotten.
HelenKay Dimon always delivers hard-hitting emotion. Not necessarily in your face, crying for attention, but more understated in layers that make themselves known little by little. There's a story within a story in this book, with the romance of Ben's brother, Mark, and their long-time friend and fellow judge, Emma. I chose not to mention it because it deserves more than a mere mention. Frankly, it almost deserves a review of its own, it's just that good. Obviously, the secondary characters in this book play a very important part in the telling of Callie and Ben's story. LEAVE ME BREATHLESS covers every base and will satisfy every romance reader's need for intrigue, danger, suspense, romance and sizzle, and I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite sure why this got 5 stars..., June 11, 2010
This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
First time reading this author. With so many books out there to choose from, I settled on this 5 star read. It was so SLOW. The dialogue wasn't witty and the heroine was annoying. The happily ever after just sort of "appeared". Not too much work went into the relationship for the happy ending. Disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sizzling good book, April 8, 2010
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leave Me Breathless (Paperback)
Leave Me Breathless by HelenKay Dimon is sensational.

Judge Bennett Walker isn't convinced that the recent attacks on himself and his fellow judges are directed to him at all. He certainly doesn't need a female bodyguard, especially one that is smoking hot. But Ben is forced by higher ups to accept protection. Spending 24/7 with Callie proves to be a challenge to his body and his heart.

Bodyguard Callie Robbins left the old boys club of the FBI in order to stand on her own. Her latest assignment is to protect Judge Walker. Callie is good at keeping her subjects safe but can she keep her heart safe from Ben? Sitting in a judge's chambers and court all day is boring for an active person like Callie. Starring at Ben is not a hardship at all. What Callie thought was a simple assignment to protect a judge is turning into an attraction that is something she has never felt before.

While Callie is trying to protect Ben there are others at the courthouse that is upset by her presence. They start to make her life the stuff of the tabloids. Trying to figure out who wants to harm Ben and fighting her attraction is taking up all of Callie's hours. Ben isn't having it any easier learning to trust a woman to take care of him and to keep his hands off of her. They both have to learn to trust each other and to fight for their relationship.

Leave Me Breathless is another keeper from HelenKay Dimon. Her books are ones I love to read as soon as I get them. They are fun, sexy and delightful. Her characters are well developed and feel like old friends. You can't go wrong with a book by this author.
