I couldn't disagree more with UrsaBorealis. My experience with this album was completely different. This album to me is sublimely beautiful. Beth's purity comes through on each note she sings. I found myself in tears listening to Lights Out. Emotional, pure and a beautiful album to listen to especially in the morning hours. This album had a profound impact on my life and I encourage others to listen and see for themselves.

Not her first album,

This is her second album. She recorded Mud, rock, and clay under the name Elisabeth Rose. There's another Elisabeth Rose out there which is why I think she changed it. Look for mud rock and clay. It's worth your time.

Just had Beth play at our wedding. I'm a huge fan of folk and indie artists. Beth has a wonderful melodic voice and beautiful song lyrics. I'd highly recommend you sample her music.

Nice but Not Great,
This review is from: Leave Your Shoes (MP3 Download)
This young lady has a nice voice and the songs on her album are nice. But they're not great, despite what some reviewers have said. This is not an album of fantastic compositions by a brilliant new talent. Test the hypothesis. Listen to Joni Mitchell's first album, Song to a Seagull. Now there's a great album, full of really stellar songs and singing. The music brims with originality: the chords, the melodic structures, and the orchestrations. So, be careful of what reviewers say and be a critical listener. I would not buy Beth Whitney's Leave Your Shoes. That being said and done, I want to encourage all young musicians, including Beth, who are working hard to make something good and who are taking the chance by putting their efforts out there for everyone to hear. Good job. Keep it up. Practice makes better.
