Editorial Reviews

2008 digitally remastered two-fer from the ever-smiling pop duo featuring two albums on one shiny disc. Their first album as a duo, I'm Leaving It All Up to You, was originally released in 1974 followed a year later by their sophomore album Make The World Go Away. Includes the worldwide hit singles 'I'm Leaving It All Up To You', 'Morning Side Of The Mountain' and 'Make The World Go Away'. Like all of the Osmonds-related reissues, this features original album artwork, pictures of related singles sleeves and great, detailed liner notes by Phil Hendriks. 7Ts.

A little known fact - one of the reasons Marie became Donny's singing partner was because Donny's voice was maturing and "breaking".

Hence, he couldn't hit the high notes as he could before.

Enter Marie to help with that situation and the duo "Donny and Marie" was born.

It was one of the wisest and best decision the Osmonds ever made because Donny and Marie made great music and The Donny and Marie Show entertained and thrilled millions around the world.

Donny and Marie Osmond's songs brought and will bring a great deal of joy and happiness to their adoring fans and audiences; and when you hear their songs on this CD you'll instantly know why! True, maybe one or two of their other record album releases were somewhat superior, but I can't agree more with the other reviewers who write that these two albums are great fun to listen to over and over again! The sound quality is excellent, too.

"I'm Leaving It (All) Up to You" provides an auspicious beginning for the CD. In the liner notes for the "Osmondmania" CD, it says that Donny had a bit of trouble keeping up with Marie during the fast-paced words "I'm Leaving It All Up to You;" but when I hear it he sounds really good indeed, singing in perfect harmony with his sister Marie. "Take Me Back Again" is an outstanding song that moves me every time I hear it; this music is all THAT good! "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" is very catchy even if the lyrics aren't all that happy; and the musical arrangement is very well done. "Everything Good Reminds Me of You" shines bright in Donny and Marie's most capable hands; I love it!

"Gone" is another tune that Donny and Marie perform to perfection--and beyond! As usual, they never let go of a single superfluous note. "Morning Side of the Mountain" has a beautiful arrangement and Donny delivers this one very well. "True Love" sounds fresh and new when Donny and Marie sing it; and they also do an excellent cover of "It Takes Two." Listen for other gems including "The Umbrella Song;" their splendid job on "Let It Be Me" with them once more singing straight from their hearts; and "Make the World Go Away" stuns me with its beauty.

Here we have the very first two albums from the famous duo Donny and Marie on one spectacular cd. Oh, were they young and also was I. I was an early teen and can clearly remember when I'M LEAVING IT ALL UP TO YOU was playing on the radio and my excitement when buying the album. Their harmonies together were amazing and I was introduced to my teenage crush - Marie. I wore the first album out. They very maturely handled some classic songs like LET IT BE ME and TRUE LOVE. The hits here have become classics. The title track succesfully introduced us to Donny and Marie but the other hits and standout numbers MORNING SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, THE UMBRELLA SONG and IT TAKES TWO helped form their identity.

Then we have the second album MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY. No truly succesful singles but a continuation of their rare beautiful harmonies and interpretations of some classic songs. IT'S ALL IN THE GAME, WHEN SOMEBODY CARES FOR YOU and LIVING ON MY SUSPICION are all standouts with the joyful TOGETHER a wonderful uptempo number. This album showed that the success of the first was not a fluke and that Donny and Marie had staying power. It also laid the groundwork of the even more succesful future to come.

This cd with both albums is amazing. The liner notes are very informative and the digital remastering is crystal clear. Brilliant.

This music does truly stand the test of time as have Donny and Marie themselves. Enjoy.

These albums from 1974-75 are the early, more squeaky sounding Donny & Marie. I much prefer their next 4 albums, but these are also wonderful. "Morning side of the mountain" is a classic, lovely song. "I'm leaving it all up to you", although their highest charting single (and album) isn't close to their best songs. "The Umbrella song" is another classic along with their version of "It takes two". As they matured in the coming years they sounded better.
"Make the world go away" is a little bit better than the first album. "Together" is a great song, that was a hit for another soul group in 1980 called "Tierra". Living on my suspicion was written by Donny & Merrill and the B-side to the title track single. It's different and I really like it. Winning combination is the best D&M album in my opinion, but all of them contain great songs that I love and will continue listening to forever! This is the start of a long career for D&M, before the TV series. Don't leave it out of your collection.
