One unexpected and hotly fought-over little boy, two dead bodies, and a series of home vandalisms throw Texas attorney turned island chanteuse Katie Connell into a tizzy. Juggling all of this, Bloody Mary cravings, baggage, and the bad guys too, she waffles between the jumbie house that brought her back from the brink and the man she believes is the love of her life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations April 15, 2013
By rhonda
Format:Paperback
As much as I loved Saving Grace, I love Leaving Annalise even more. It had me laughing one minute and holding my breath the next (again and again). I felt a kinship with Katie Connell and could totally see this book being made into a movie. Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a true wordsmith and talented story-teller. I'm ready for her next book already!

4.0 out of 5 stars Leaving Annalise July 20, 2013
By Liz C
Format:Kindle Edition
I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway, I did read the first few pages before I went and bought the first book in the series. I'd like to stress that this book can stand on its own, you don't have to read the first one, you'll probably enjoy it better if you did though. The author does go back and give background information so you won't be totally lost if you start with this one.

I have to say I really enjoyed the characters of this series. I could vividly see them, walked right next to them, saw things as they were seeing them, it was a great read. I did like the second one a bit more than the first, there was just a lot more turmoil in it (and there was plenty in the first) and you didn't always see things coming like you do with some books. I highly recommend this series, though be prepared to not want to walk away from it, and perhaps you'll lose a bit of sleep for "just one more chapter" before you realize it's maybe three in the morning and you've finished it. I'll be adding this author to my TBR list, I can't wait to see what else she has.

Leaving Annalise was wonderful...I couldn't stop once I started, and just like Saving Grace, it is full of all the things that make a good book good. I love Katie...she is complicated and imperfect, brave, self-reliant and evolving...and I feel like I travel right along side her...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story March 9, 2014

Oh joy! A new author to keep me entertained while waiting for Norah Roberts or Janet Evanovich to bring out a new book. The first book was good but I dived in to the second and didn't want it to end....now on to the third!

5.0 out of 5 stars Leaving Annalise August 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love these Annalise books. Action-packed and colorful, they grab you at the beginning and pull you along until you run out of chapters. I find myself stopping at a bench after my bus ride to finish the chapter and sitting up in bed at night for "one more chapter".

You can't write better fiction than real life and if you've ever lived in Paradise, the events, situations and culture embedded in the Annalise series are entirely believable. Continentals may find some of the scenes far-fetched, but these things really do happen in the islands.

Besides pacing the intrigue of the story just right, Pamela paints colorful pictures of the island scenery and behavior. The nuances of island behavior make me laugh and the scenery in her words makes me wish I was there.

I can't wait for the next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pamela Hutchins is a phenomenal storyteller February 3, 2014
Format:Paperback
In my review of Saving Grace (the 1st in the series), I compared Pamela Hutchins to Janet Evanovich. While the humor is similar and storyline compelling, Pamela has graduated beyond the comparison. Her style shines on its own. Every page has you thinking, feeling, and laughing. I burst out laughing quite a bit, to the chagrin of my husband who jumped in surprise every time.

There was one scene, where I learned I could totally relate to Katie (MC), that had me squirming and squealing. (Cisterns in the dark) In fact, my mother came rushing in the room to check on me when she heard me yelp, “Oh my God, NO!”

It’s a fun ride Pamela takes you on. Love not so unrequited after all. A protective voodoo spirit. Murder and mystery works its way in there very well. Katie has the weight of her complicated life pressing on her. But she takes it as it comes, with humor and with tears. And you’ll feel it, like you’re there with her. You want to be there with her. This is a fantastic book! Don’t miss out on this adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful and Hopeful November 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had Saving Grace on my kindle carousel for months and finally cracked it open. Start with that first.

What a shockingly wonderfully written book. The main character, Katie, will surprise you with her determination and will to change the direction of her life. You may even relate to her trials and tribulations.

Just finished Leaving Annaliese and it was just as moving as book #1, Saving Grace. Getting ready to download book #3, I have to find out what is next for Katie and Nick and their family. Hope the author develops some of the other characters introduced in Katie's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting sequel to Saving Grace June 6, 2013
Format:Paperback
When I read Saving Grace (Katie and Annalise) (Volume 1) by Pamela, I was excited. I hoped and hoped there would be a sequel - and was thrilled to find that there was. I received an advance review copy of Leaving Annelise and I read it in one sitting - I just couldn't put it down

It is as great as I expected it to be - and has everything that makes for a fantastic read - spunky woman, sexy man, wonderful friends, subtly hot scenes, suspense, and a baby...and, solid action!. I love how Pamela has woven her own life experiences into the story and my heart warmed over, recognizing those incidents. The best part, of course, is her writing style - it is so real and delightfully humorous. She has such a great way with words. I was so happy to meet all those old friends/characters from Saving Grace in the book again - and when Nick turned up - oh boy, I whooped with joy! I absolutely loved the way the story went. I recommend it highly and am waiting eagerly for Book 3!
