Editorial Reviews

No one has to tell John Corbett that Hollywood stars moonlighting as musicians don t always get taken seriously. He s already faced crowds full of skeptics wearing expectant looks that silently challenge, All right, actor boy, show us what you ve got. But Corbett s never had a problem doing just that, onstage with his band or on radio airwaves. His self-titled debut album, released in 2006, climbed to No. 42 on Billboard s Country Albums chart, surprising even the guy who rose to fame as Cicely, Alaska s resident radio deejay on the Northern Exposure TV series (and made women swoon in Sex and the City and My Big Fat Greek Wedding ). With his new album, Leaving Nothin Behind, on his own Funbone Records label, Corbett confirms what fans of John Corbett quickly recognized: He was never just moonlighting in the first place. Growing up in the shadow of Wheeling, W.Va. s famed Capitol Music Hall, just a few miles from where Brad Paisley was raised, music was always Corbett s first love. Leaving Nothin Behind is an album that could easily hold its own among those from top Americana artists in Nashville, Austin or even Los Angeles, where Corbett headed after high school when his father offered to help him land a better steel mill job than he could get in West Virginia. The ability to inhabit someone else s songs and make them your own is what separates wannabes from the real deal which, come to think of it, is the same trait actors need. It s all about interpretation, for which Corbett s fans and friends give him high marks.

Maybe not as good as his first, but then I have worn it out, so the tunes are all so familiar and comfortable. John should stop doing commercials and voice-overs and get back to his music.

John Corbett's second CD is a real winner. His laid-back style is infectious and fun. If anything, this tops his first CD.

I don't care what you say about actors trying to be singers, John Corbett has such a great voice and it really feels like he puts his heart into his music. I really wish that he would tour more so that I could see him in concert but Bo must keep him busy on the ranch. Don't even try to tell me that he uses studio trickery to sound better - WHO CARES IF HE DOES! I have faith that John has the talent and sounds as well in concert as he does in studio - but if he doesn't? So What! His talent as a story teller shines through on this album and I couldn't be happier to have it in my collection.

The songs, although sung with feeling, are not as memorable as those on his firat album, but the more I listen to it the better it is becoming.

Jon Corbett has a unique voice. He sings with emotion and that makes the songs "come alive". Make sure and listen to Tennessee Will, Name on a Stone and Me and Whiskey, those three are my favorites on this album. I have introduced friends to his music and now they are hooked too!

I purchased John Corbett's first album which is self-titled. I enjoyed it so much I certainly didn't want to miss this one. Excellent choice. John is even more relaxed and delivers great country songs with heart-felt appeal. Starting with "Steal Your Heart" which is a captivating ballad to the heart-wrenching songs: "Name on a Stone" and "El Paso" John sings soulfully. "Me and Whiskey" is introspective while "Cocaine and Communion" is in the same vein and very honest. "Satin Sheets" and "Dairy Queen" finishes the
production by uplifting our spirits with fast-paced fun! John truly leaves nothing behind by delivering a spectrum of country!
