4.0 out of 5 stars Milk caramel in a can
The previous reviewer evidently did not actually examine the product. It is not sweetened condense milk, it is true dulce de leche, milk caramel in a can. It is tasty enough on its own, but I used it to make a heavenly caramel mousse (a half-pint of whipping cream, whipped, then folded into one can of La Lechera Dulce de Leche; beat for consistency).

I'm getting the impression this product is Sweetened Condensed Milk. Availability of this brand is difficult, when you can buy Carnation Sweetened Condensed Milkat any grocery store

5.0 out of 5 stars Dulce de Leche/Cajeta/Manjar, November 5, 2007

This is not sweetened condensed milk, or not any more. It is actually baked sweetened condensed milk, after cooking it in a pressure cooker for at least an hour, the California review is correct. Still, that may not leave the same texture or flavor; too much time will leave it too dark and not so sweet, while too little time may leave it to soft and light (also called "manjar blanco"). Dulce de leche may be used as frosting, as a spread, it may be perfumed with vanilla or other essences or it may be used as an ingredient for many deserts and pastries, as is common in Spanish and Latinamerican cuisine, namely Chilean, Argentinean and Mexican. Enjoy!

Take some condensed milk, cook it in a pressure cooker for about and hour, or just save the time and e-bill and buy this stuff.
