Product Description

Size: 31" x 7" x 7" | Color: White

Discover the perfect way to bring your patio and balcony to life with the BALCONERA Cottage 80. This versatile planter can be placed on decks and used as a floor planter or hung from walls and railings as a windowbox planter thanks to the optional brackets. These easy-to-use brackets (purchased separately) fit into the bottom of the planter, making them an invisible support system. Plus, the BALCONERA Cottage 80 wicker finish allows you to seamlessly incorporate it into your home's current furnishings. Like most LECHUZA planters, the BALCONERA Cottage 80 comes equipped with 2 easy-to-lift liners that make planting simple, especially when using the planter with the optional brackets. Don't worry about juggling the planter and brackets as you hang the heavy pre-planted windowbox. Simply hang the empty planter from a window or balcony railing, remove the liners to plant your beautiful flowers or herbs, and then reinsert the planted liners with retractable handles into the already-hung BALCONERA Cottage 80. Furthermore, the LECHUZA signature water reservoir supplies water to your plants as needed, extending time between watering. Users can easily monitor their water reservoir levels with the planter's water-level indicator, which shows when the reservoir needs to be refilled, taking the guesswork out of plant care. Also included with this planter is LECHUZA specially-formulated plant substrate, LECHUZA-PON. LECHUZA-PON separates your potting soil from the water reservoir, aerates the roots, provides your plants with nutrition, and helps regulate the water supplied to your plant. As an indoor and outdoor planter, the BALCONERA Cottage 80 is outfitted with a drainage plug to allow for the removal of excess rainwater when installed outdoors. This feature makes the BALCONERA Cottage 80 ideal for annuals, blooming plants and foliage. These planters are also light-weight, UV resistant, frostproof and weatherproof. Approximate size 32" W x 7" D x 7" H.

This is worth every penny, but watch your pennies! I bought the item without brackets, and had to buy them separately, that decision cost me $$$. That said, this planter is gorgeous, easy to use, strong, and can fit any railing - thick, thin, round, square, whatever! I'm anxious to see how the self watering feature works, that'll be in a few more weeks, but I'm glad I didn't settle on any of the options available at my local nurseries or depots. This is so much classier than that ratty barkcloth lining with wrought iron, and it's obviously better than plastic. This looks like it's going to last for years. I'm happy with the investment, I just wish I hadn't been so impulsive and waited for a price that included brackets, I overpaid by about $20!

UPDATE!!! 2 MONTHS LATER...The herbs I planted are thriving. Thyme, Chives, Thai Basil, Sage, Tarragon. This takes a lot of water to fill, sometimes 3 trips with a half gallon jug, but it works wonderfully. I wait to fill until I see a sign of wilting, they recommend a "dry period" and so far I'm thrilled with this purchase. The plants are in full sun and suck up the water very fast. Because I pass it every time I come home, I am reminded to use these herbs in my cooking, and even though I'm incredibly lazy, (I would never go downstairs for herbs, I would just sit down until the urge passed), since they're outside my front door, I get to enjoy them often. I run my hands through them on the way out the door and the herby scent perfumes my steering wheel!

UPDATE A YEAR LATER... I got bored with herbs and this summer I have six different pepper plants growing. This is like botany class for idiots! Every part of this planter still working great, still looking great. I love that the self watering feature means that if I get distracted for a couple of days, these plants don't suffer! If I had more railing I'd buy more planters!

Being a city dweller, specifically in a Condo, it's hard to get an active running water line over to my patio. There's no hoses, and finding a way to keep my plants watered with minimal maintenance (and not having to water once a day) was something I needed for my herb garden. I did a lot of research, tried several different planters, but the Lechuza Balconera is hands down, one of the best out there.

First off - the looks. It's a visually appealing planter. Its got a beautiful weave looking material and the Granite is a fantastic looking dark grey that really shines during the day and disappears at night on my patio rail.

Secondly - it works great. The indicator tells you approximately how much water is left in there, and theres really no way to overwater your plants. I've tried dumping a large amount of water through the soil, and all the excess water just drains out the bottom through the patented draining system. Especially since there has been rain in Los Angeles, I was afraid that the planter might not be able to hold up. But it exceeded my expectations and kept the plants at the perfect controlled water levels/hydration.

Finally - its expensive. I know. But considering the amount of money I've wasted replacing plants, this has been a life saver. I have 4 of these now across my balcony and my plants are thriving.

Solid buy and quality product. If I had more room I'd buy more!

I have 13 of these hanging on my restaurant balcony. Best results I've ever had. You can't overwater because they have an overflow mechanism. Hard to underwater because it's got an indicator that tells you exactly how much is in the reservoir. Plants self regulate the amount of water by drawing from the reservoir as they need. It's pretty idiot proof. I have at least 20 different varieties of very colorful plants and all but one is doing awesome, even in direct sunlight.

I bought an earlier version of this flower box from the same company maybe 10 years ago. I loved the prior version for its self watering technology for the hard to reach window flower boxes on my second floor. I had never seen a better box and they worked great for me for the last 10 years. When I got a new home and had more flower boxes, I was concerned I would be able to find anything like it. I was very happy to find the same company making an even newer and improved version of the flower box! You have to love this fine and green German engineering! The new box has a fantastic look to it and I like the new streamlined look of the selfwatering tube and water level gauge. The new dirt material provided is also great. Sometimes you find things made even better and this was the case. I highly recommend for those hard to reach flower boxes that need self regulated watering.

These are perfectly designed and built. They've been up through two growing seasons and look like new. The built-in water reservoir permits me to water only once to twice a week. The float indicators show when water is needed. And you can't overwater because of the overflow outlet. Mine are below second story windows. The inner liners (two per box) make replanting easy; I can remove them, take them through the house in a bag, replant outdoors and return them to place. The brackets (sold separately) were easy to install, are strong, and keep the window boxes (and moisture) away from the siding.
