they changed their sound! but for the better...,
By
This review is from: Lechuza (Audio CD)
This band sounded almost too pop-punkish with their S/T CD, which, at the time, I thought was amazing... but it started to wear out,.. I then picked this up for 6.99 and thought it was cool, then I was caught off guard by some songs (in a positive way), and this quickly became a constant fixture in my CD player... this is much rougher, faster, emotional, aggressive than its predecessor, and it's a really musically tight album... Damon moving to drums was a very smart move by the band, as he did a perfect job filling in for Travis from Blink on last year's tour... and his style fits Fenix TX perfectly. The new guitarist, James Love doesn't appear to be much of a punk band by the comments about him in the liner notes, but he definitely influences this band to go much harder, and they do it really well. This is a very strong offering by the Fenix TX boys, who have finally let go of their xerox-of-Blink-182 label.

So, your wondering, 'should I bye this CD or not?' Well let me tell you....BUY IT!!!!!!! This is one of the best CD's I own, and I know I'll never get sick of it. So far, ever since the first day I bought it, I've never been able to stop listening to it.Fenix TX has changed so much from their last album. They even have a new member. And they definitely have a whole different sound with this album. It definitely desrves 5 stars, here's why: (1)Phoebe Cates: A great way to start off the CD. It has some really catchy lyrics, and great music.(4/5) (2)Katie W: I love this song!!! Very catchy lyrics and a nice sound. It's also a great follow-up to Phoebe.(4/5) (3)Threesome: MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE CD!!!! I cannot stop listening to this song. It has a nice fast pased refrain, and awsome music.(5/5) (4)Something Bad Is Gonna Happen: When you thought this CD couldn't get any better, it didn't. This song contains a very new sound, and it is the only song on the CD with curses. This is one of their songs which contains their new sound, but it just doesn't sound that good to me.(3/5) (5)Tearjerker: This would be the slow track on the CD. After the loud, fast sound of SBIGH, this is a great way to slow down the CD.(4/5) (6)Pasture of Muppets: This is where the CD starts to speed up again after the slow sounds of Tearjerker. It isn't one of my favorites, but it's not the worst song on the CD. Another song with that new fast sound.(3/5) (7)A Song For Everyone: WARNING: THIS SONG CONTAINS VERY CATCHY LYRICS AND WILL NEVER GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD. This is my 2nd favorite song on the CD.(5/5) (8)Manufactured Inspirato: Not the best song,or one of my favorites, but it's still an okay song.(4/5) (9)Beating a Dead Horse: What happened you guys?? This song is basically loud annoying with a very disturbing voice in it.(3/5) (10)Abba Zabba: GREAT SONG. Sounds a lot like something from their old CD.(4/5) (11)El Borracho: This song takes a while to pick up, bt when it does it turns out to be a great song. I just wish I new what the title meant.(3-4/5) Hidden Track: This song is after El Borracho, which you have to wait about 6 minutes until it starts. They would have been better off doing something funny, but instead they used long annoying music, followed by screaming voices and a finale of bad music and a satanic like voice. What a horrible way to end the CD.(-100/5) So some songs are loud, some are annoying, but over all, this is a great CD!!!!!!!! BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT!!!!!!!!

MUCH better than thier Self Titled album,
By
This review is from: Lechuza (Audio CD)
Note: I am completely erasing my previous review and are replacing it with this because I am more familiar without he CD now.The new Fenix TX is definitely better then their first album. Every song sounds completely different than the rest, with only 1 exception. Sure they have done some SERIOUS changing, but so what. Because it was definitely for the better. IF you like pop/punk or emo I honestly do not see how you can't like this album. It is definitely pop/punk at its best. Here is a analyzation of each track: 1. Phoebe Cates: This is the best song on the CD. It is the only song that even resembles their previous CD. In fact it sounds to me like a VERY MUCH improved version of Surf Song with different lyrics. The lyrics are great for lonely guys that can't get a girl friend like me. WIth lyrics like: "ALl I really need is someone like Phoebe, Someone to excite my fantasies. And every night I dream, she is here with me and I will be the only one for her, oh....". I love this song. I almost wish I could have written it myself. 2. Katie W: Here is cool Alkaline Trio style song that is very catchy. The lyrics kind of contradict the lonely guy lyrics from track 1 and 5 but oh well. 3. Threesome: Yet another Alkaline Trio style song. Except this one has a tiny spice of Eve6, Horoscope CD for flavour. This is their radio hit so I guess I should be bashing this song. But I'm not. This is the 3rd best song on the CD so for ounce I think the radio did a good job of picking the hit. 4. Something Bad is going to Happen: Here is the first song that makes you want to make sure that you are really listening to a pop/punk band. I am a huge listener of authentic underground punk like Bad Religion, NOFX, and Pennywise and this is definitely NOT pop/punk. This is punk. In fact it is dangerously close to being Hardcore punk. It's hard to believe but it's true. 5. Tearjerker: Here is the popiest song on the CD. However, that doesn't make it a bad song. I love it. In fact the sound reminds me a lot of "Story of a Lonely Guy" by Blink182. 6. Pasture Of Muppets: Here is another punk song. Again you have to make sure it is really Fenix TX 7. A Song For Everyone: This is a solid song with lyrics that make no sense. I originally said that this sounded like Screeching Weasel. I must have been sniffing crack at the time or something cause this doesn't sound ANYTHING like Screeching Weasel. However, it reminds me a lot of the new No Motiv sound. 8. Manufactured Inspirato: Another pure punk song. It actually sounds kind of like Pennywise. ROCK ON!!!!! 9. Beating A Dead Horse: Ok. This song is HARDCORE PUNK. I am dead serious. You might as well be listening to some "Death By Stereo" because that's what this is like!!!!! 10. Abba Zabba: OK, I lied earlier. He he. This definitely sounds the most like their first album. In fact it sounds just like something that could of came off of the first album, unlike the rest of the CD. Hardcore fans of Fenix TX's old CD will probably consider this the best song on the CD. 11. El Borracho: This is the second best song on the CD. The verses are very mellow and surprisingly like Nirvana's mellow parts. But ounce you hit the chorus you are simply blown away with rich electrical guitar music that will almost make you drop your chin and drool because it is so AWESOME. The only reason it is only the 2nd best song on the CD is because the verses aren't good enough to make it to the top. So buy this CD. But don't expect to get another CD like the Self titled one. Cause that just ain't gonna happen. Word.

i'll start by saying their last cd was very good...at first. give it a listen a couple more times and it all sounds the same and is hard to differentiate songs. so, i was hesitant to buy this one, but our good friends at target had it on sale for $7, hell i'd buy poo for $7 and be happy with my purchase. i'm a huge fan of punk and emo and that whole scene, and have been for many years but i'm also a fan of rock and other types of music just to keep from getting bored, plus there's a lot of extremely talented bands that deserve to be heard. so when i put this cd i was expecting the same song 13 times, but instead i was delighted to get a much more complete cd. "phoebe" is a wonderful, funny pop punk song that most guys of any age can relate to. then songs like "something bad is gonna happen" shows fenix tx is much more than a 3 chord pop punk band. it is really a well crafted rock song. lechuza is definitely a far cry from the last album no doubt, but in a good way. it shows a little more maturity and craftsmanship, which is what they need if they want to keep an audience. i'd definitely reccomend this album. what are you waiting for? go get it!

Guys, What Happened???,

Fenix TX had one of the best albums of the year with their last effort, now they drop this album of semi-angry, non listenable radio rock on us? What happened to the catchy, humor-filled punk? If you liked them last time, or as River Fenix, stay away from this one and hope they come to their senses. If you are angry and non-melodic, pick this up and rock on.

Excellent! Pop-Punk gets a swift kick in the pants,

Punk rock used to be for us underground music lovers who wanted to just rock out and have fun while doing it; something happy to tap your foot to. Now, because Blink 182 became popular, there are way too many poseur-punk bands out there. I was and still am happy Blink 182 is popular. They're still great, but there are too too too many bands out there copying off of them (ex.: New Found Glory, Sum 41, and sooooo many more I couldn't fit them in this review.) I loved Fenix TX's first album. I even have the orginal release from when they were Riverfenix. It's the same thing only with different mixes, two different songs, and some extra hidden-type stuff; a little better in my opinion. If you listen to Fenix Tx's first cd and you don't know that these guys have actually been around quite a while and despite their strong connections with Blink 182, you might think they're just another poseur-punk band. Well, if you still aren't convinced they aren't, look no further than their sophomore release, "Lechuza". It's got a lot more variety and will prove that Fenix TX is not just another poseur-punk band. Let me take you on a track by track review: 1. Pheobe Cates: excellent opener. very remeniscent of their first album, but much stronger and mature. 2. Katie W.: a pretty good, upbeat song. it took a few listens to grow on me, but for full enjoyment, you have to get into it. I'm not sure what to compare this song's sound to. It's not like anything i've ever heard, but you can tell it's Fenix TX. 3. Threesome: another excellent song very remeniscent of their first album, but again, much stronger and mature. 4. Something Bad Is Gonna Happen: A good song to get pumped up to. One of the few other songs that have a strong metal-influence. Fenixt TX lead singer/co-guitarist Willie Salazar did say "Metal's in my f**king soul!" Great song! 5. Tearjerker: A slow, sad song. Not really a punk song, but more a pop-rock song, but much stronger and convincing than any real pop-rock song. Another great song! 6. Pasture of Muppets: the title is a play on Metallica's album title "Master Of Puppets." One of the other songs with a heavy metal influence. Willie Salazar sings this one very angrily and powerfully. Yet another great song! 7. A Song For Everyone: this is another song very similiar to their first album, but it's not pure punk. It has a sweeter sound to it. More kind of pop-rock like "Tearjerker" but a lot happier and a little faster paced. Great song! 8. Manufactured Inspirato: yet another song similar to their first album but (as i've said numerous times before) stronger and more mature. Not one of the standouts, but still very, very good. 9. Beating A Dead Horse: The titles says it all. The songs is about as angry as someone beating a dead horse. The last of the songs with a heavy metal influence. My favorite on the cd. It took a few listens to grow on me, though. The lyrics are very angry and the singing is even angrier. The verses are sung by someone in the band other than Willie Salazar and they have some weird growling effect on them. It's pretty cool. Great Great Great song! 10. Abba Zabba: this an old song they wrote so naturally, it's very similar to their first album. Kind of strange song structure, though. There's these big musical gaps between the verses and chorus. It might take a few listens to grow on you, but still a pretty good song. Not one of my favorites, though. 11. El Borracho: Very, very, very different song for Fenix TX. it starts out with sounds of a thunderstorm and a cello. The verses are slow and boring, but the chorus is very powerful. You have to get into it to appreciate it. My least favorite on the album. hidden tracks: the first hidden track is stupid. it's music from an old video game looped over for two minutes. then you hear a short Michael Jordan sample ("Let's play some basketball") and it kicks right into some fast instrumental metal song. it's very cool. Then it goes into a song about their new guitarist, James Love. It's short and pretty funny. Then into a short, loud metal segment with Willie and Damon (I think Damon) singing part of an early song called "City Of The Dead." It's a hidden track on their Riverfenix release. People who don't own that probably don't get the joke. In conclusion, this is definitely one the best albums i'll hear this year. If you like their first album because you like girlie-sweet pop-punk and/or you think they're cute, you won't like this album. If you didn't like their first album, you might like this one. It's a lot stronger and mature than their first album and many more influences thrown into the mix. A great album. I highly reccomend it!

The BEST Pop-Punk Cd of this year,
This review is from: Lechuza (Audio CD)
I was in France when I heard that amazing song titled "Katie W.", at that moment I hesitated about buying the cd, but then I bought a 'zine named "Rock Sound", which included a cd w/ the song. Then I went to Virgin Megastore in Paris and bought Lechuza and here is a little review of each song:1. Phoebe Cates : Good song with some catchy lyrics 2. Katie W. : Great Emo song, cant get tired from hearing it 3. Threesome :First single and a good song, but William uses his "Soprano" skills in this song 4. SBIGH : Punk Song w/ explicit chorus 5. Tearjerker : Worst song on the record, it's not even pop-punk, it's pure pop 6. Pasture of Muppets : Weird song that looks like a punk version of Master of Puppets, good anyway. 7. A Song for Everyone : I luv this song, it's a masterpiece 8. Manufactured Inspirato : Another Punk song. 9. Beating a dead horse : WTF is THIS FS, Extremely strange 10. Abba Zabba : Some people like it, some don't. 11. El Borracho : Ésta canción es la vaina más rara que yo haya oido en mi vida, o sea, estos bichos son buenos pero a veces son demasiado pop para mi, anyway. I like other pop-punk bands like "descendents" or "new found glory" and this album is superb, but sometimes it gets too mellow to me

Lechuza: Can't Get Enough Of It!!,
By Jimmy Douglas (Eagle Creek, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lechuza (Audio CD)
Fenix-TX released their debute self titled album less than two years ago and that CD was always good to listen to for a couple of reasons: the music was fun to listen to, and easy to relate to. They've continued their tradition with Lechuza, which will never leave me CD player for a very long time. Listening to the old Fenix CD is always good for my nerves and now this new material is even better because not only does it totally relate to so many people's lives, but it really shows how Fenix-TX has really come a long way as a rock group. Songs like Tearjerker and Phoebe Cates are just to name a couple of songs that totally remind me of myself and my life. I can listen to the whole CD all the way through and not get tired of any of this great music. I'm giving it all stars because it's one of the very few CD's that I've ever considered to be worth the money I've spent on it. Hell, I'd pay double for it if I had to. And don't worry about this album being a "sell out" piece of garbage that's been coming around from lots of bands lately. This is real music inspired by real emotions and is totally worth listening to...over and over and over again.

While I'll admit that I was very disapointed in both the new Sum 41 cd and the new Blink 182 cd, I didn't really know what to expect when I picked up Lechuza yesterday at my local cd place. I was looking into Fenix TX for a while, but i've never really heard them except for sound clips on amazon. So, looking for a new cd, I thought i'd give their new one a shot. it was a bargin. I thought it would probaly be another pop/punk cd that would have gotten boring in about 5 minutes, Boy, I was wrong. I can't get Lechuza out of my cd player. The cd is very well written. You can tell that Fenix TX worked hard on it. I haven't checked out their first cd yet, but I plan too, especially after the good job they did with this one. The first 3 songs on Lechuza, "Phoebe Cates", "Katie W." and "Threesome" are all amazing. Easily, those are the best songs on the cd. However, the cd get a bit strange towards the middle. The songs are good, but some are just plain strange, especially tracks like "Something Bad Is Gonna Happen" and "Beating a Dead Horse". However, the cd gets back on target with the final two tracks "Abba Zabba" and "El Borracho". Other good tracks are "Song for Everyone" and "Manufactured Inspirato". The overall cd is a great listen for any fan of the pop/punk genre. I haven't been this impressed since New Found Glory's "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Even though the cd does get a little strange towards the middle, the songs are catchy, and the cd will be back in your cd player many times. It's much better than the new Sum 41 cd, and it might actually be better than the new Blink 182 one.

CHANGE OF HEART,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lechuza (Audio CD)
Several Months ago, I did a review from Music Fan, USA. I gave it 3 stars and said there were only 5 good songs. I WAS WRONG. After giving it several chances, I realized, I love this cd. Phoebe Cates is pretty good, sounds like something you'd find on the first cd. Katie W is a great emo song and Threesome is awesome. A Song for Everyone is incredible, as is Abba Zabba. Tearjerker is punk-pop, but still very good. Something Bad is Gonna Happen, Pasture of Muppets, and Manufactured Inspirato are different, but still very good in their own way. However, they don't stay fresh as long as others. Beating of a Dead Horse is odd but it has a kind of cool chorus. El Borracho is long, so very long. However, that too, has a cool chorus. Excellent cd, but don't expect the same style as the self titled.
