Lectio Divina: Contemplative Awakening and Awareness

I learned about lectio divina when I committed to become an oblate of St Benedict. And attending the First World Congress of Oblates in Rome, Italy in 2005, the lectio way of prayer was drilled into us as a very effective tool of transformation. Fr Luigi Bertolli, the organizer, told a story of how one 50-year old lady is so grumpy and hard to get along with... that if she had practiced lectio, she'd 'see' and 'hear' how she lives her relationships and perhaps be happier with herself and others.

Well- we all want to be happy, loving, and at peace. This book has all the tools for those qualities and for conversion of the heart, one of the commitments we oblates make. Through lectio, I was able to discern my harmful ways and slowly I am being transformed into, at least for my wife, someone I'd be happy to be with.

The whole book speaks to me because of its contemplative intention. But I especially love the the Making Art chapter with its lectio for watching films, looking at icons and other people's art or making my own art, moving my body, on music and poetry... you know, the fun things in my life.

If St. Paul's "pray unceasingly" is to be attempted and practiced, this book alone will guide you and feed you like the pilgrim you are on your way to union with the One within you.

Lectio Divinia Comtemplative Awakening and Awareness, explains praying through scripture. I found the chapters of scripture catagorized in word explained very helpful and recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about Lectio Diviania or different ways to comunicate in prayer.
