5.0 out of 5 stars Never mispronounce a Biblical word again!, November 12, 2001
Don't you just hate it when the lector mangles the pronunciation of a city or a person?

Our Sunday Visitor's helpful "Lector's Guide to Biblical Pronunciations, Updated" should be on the bookshelf in every sacristy.

Originally published in 1975, this revised version was necessary in light of the new translation of the Roman Lectionary approved in 1998. It contains more than 100 new words and also allows the lector to look up confusing words in one of two ways. Lectors can either look a word up in the alphabetical listing of words at the end of the book, or they can look up difficult words based upon the readings in a particular year and season. The only drawback to the latter is that a great many lectors may not know what year (A, B, or C) the Church is in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Biblical Pronunciations, May 8, 2008
Very Good. Concise and to the point. Provides an excellent reference for those involved in reading the Word of God for the praying community or simply interested in exactly how those difficult words really sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated Version of a Layreader's Dictionary, December 18, 2009

Reading from the Bible can be a "job," especially if you do not know how to pronounce all of the Biblical names. The LECTOR'S GUIDE TO BIBLICAL PRONUNCIATIONS has assisted me for almost 30 years, and in its updated format that lists all of the "challenging" words by each Sunday in the church's 3-year cycle, it makes a lector's job even easier. There are other similar books out there, that have good qualities, too, but if you are just interested in knowing how to pronounce those troublesome words, this is the book you need for reference.
