Editorial Reviews

Review

“This is a straightforward book about genetics that is not only easy to understand but also easy to carry around. It lists and explains all the relevant clinical genetics that a medical student may see in their medical career.” Medical Student, Edinburgh University

“Small, concise, well-written and explains genetics thoroughly. The text is informative and presented in a style that makes you read on.” Medical Student. Glasgow University

“This is a concise review of medical genetics. It presents information on the key concepts covered within the medical course, and can be used as an introductory textbook to a topic or as an aid for revision. Students will find this book to be the perfect introduction to their genetics course, as well as a quick review for exams.” Medical Student, Bristol University

“A useful text to isolate information about genetic diseases, coupled with short overviews of the conditions including their treatment, with discussion of genetic techniques and basic principles as well.” Medical Student, UEA

Book Description

Genetics continues to reveal more about the contribution of individual familial inheritence to disease and other medical conditions. Medical students require fundamental understanding of the science of genetics, and a knowledge of the core clinical conditions that have genetic causation. The 2nd edition introduces the basic chemistry of the genetic code before taking students on a tour of the tools used for biomolecular anaylsis. The science of genetics is then introduced before a final chapter 'Molecular Medicine in Practice' introduces the diseases and other clinical conditions. For this new 3rd edition, we propose refocusing the text on the knowledge students require of medical genetics. This leads to a retitling and repositioning of the book.

This review is from: Lecture Notes: Medical Genetics (Paperback)
The small book is concise, and easy to read. I am not a physician but am studying DNA and its design so the book offered an excellent opportunity to test myself on the basic concepts that involve genetics as a seen from the medical perspective. The graphics and summaries are excellent and make this paperback book a good reference for test reviews.I would think that it is ideal for molecular biology students, or people that are studying genetics from a broad overview.
