This review is from: Ledge Walkers (Lesbian Adventure Club, Book 2) (Paperback)
After the action of Scavengers, The ladies of the Lesbian Adventure Club relax in a non-competitive atmosphere and let us get to know them better. This volume is character driven and this is where we learn who they really are.
Despite dramatic subplots involving Susan's self doubts about being in the closet, about Kris's and Ginny's twenty-fifth anniversary, and about revelations of Claudia which take Kate by surprise, and about the introduction of Janice, the book is mostly about how everybody fits within the framework of the Club and how they all function together. Kate finds Laura's weakness. Will she be able to exploit it? Ginny has hurt feelings over an arbitrary decision by Kris. Will they come to an understanding? Alison, still minus Lisa, shows up alone. Will she find happiness? The tension builds and the romance flows until the surprising resolution. Rosalyn Wraight has written a series which is neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring. It's a romance cum mystery cum puzzle cum day-in-the-life. A multigeneric series is not easy to write and keep entertaining, but Ms Wraight somehow magnages to keep this series fascinating book after book.

Ledge Walkers by Rosalyn Wraight
I purchased this, the second book in a series along with the first book. Why? I really don't know, I must have had some money to throw away. This second book is as unfulfilling as the first. This time the Lesbian Adventure club couples, 5 couples, are having a weekend recreating their high school years, with a class on home ec - applying the correct makeup, PE - body massages, etc. This book is 107 pages, a little longer than the first which was 90 pages. These are really long short stories without compelling content. So many pages, and serious angst, revolved around the fact the Claudia was a cheer leader in school and her partner Kate was a nerd. Claudia never told Kate THIS VERY IMPORTANT FACT and a crushed heart ensues. I've come to think that perhaps the author is herself a young woman, perhaps in high school and therefore the content of her books IS high drama to her. Don't waste your money on these two however. Even though I spent about $25 on the two of them they're both going into my recycle bin. On the hot meter this was a 0; on the love meter it was a 4. **Remember - if you want your favorite authors to keep writing they have to be able to earn a living doing it so if at all possible buy the book NEW. If you're not going to keep it in your collection put it in the recycle bin to make another book.** |
