Amazon.com Review

What could be more relaxing than a weekend away from the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life: lounging in the tranquil countryside, eating a delicious home-cooked meal under the stars? Even if the countryside is a thousand miles away, Lee Bailey's Country Weekends will transport you there in your imagination. The emphasis is on good, wholesome foods, fruit, vegetables, and grains. Recipes for both simple country fare and more extravagant meals bring the good life right into your kitchen. Why not relax at your dining table and pretend you're on a country retreat? --Naomi Gesinger

5.0 out of 5 stars An Endless Source of Pleasure, April 6, 2010

An Endless Source of Pleasure, this cookbook is so much more than a cookbook. Tips on how to relax and entertain at the same time with a house full of guests. Each recipe is shown prepared on the pages in full and scrumptious color photos - not individually, but in the setting, as served on the table. And each setting is an inspiration to top the one before, yet simple and attainable. And everything is easy to prepare, and delicious.
I cannot more highly recommend a cookbook. I have quite a collection, but this is my most used one of all - in the country on the weekends.
Oh, and i have purchased many more for gifts. It is an exquisite book to look at and pour over, whether you are in the kitchen or sitting on your deck.

This review is from: Lee Bailey's Country Weekends (Hardcover)
In one-fell-swoop Lee Bailey introduces you to great meals, excellent presentation, and the excellence of country foods. I'd be hard put to name a favorite Lee Bailey cookbook, but COUNTRY WEEKENDS was my introduction and the one I pull from the shelf when I'm looking for something special.
I've used the basics of his recipes for so long even I can't tell if I'm telling the truth when asked about a dish and I reply, "I made it up." I did this when asked about a recent 4th of July cold shrimp soup, but I know the technique is one I learned from Lee Bailey. His books are my JOY of COOKING.
If you love good food that is easy to prepare and having friends over this is the cookbook for you.
