This is my second reloading press. I've successfully loaded around 1000 rounds now on the Lee Pro 1000, and it runs like a charm. With that being said, here are some tips to work out the "issues".

1. Lightly sand all plastic surfaces. Some 800 grit sand paper on the case feeder will make it rotate much easier. Also, lightly sand the primer ramp to smooth it out. This will help the primers slide down easier.

2. Use a little graphite on all plastic parts. Again, to help the primers slide down the ramp easier, and the case feeder will rotate easier.

3. Lightly oil the main ram, and handle linkage. This will give you a much smoother pull.

4. Replace the chain pull with some springs and S hooks. You can find these at any hardware store.

5. Keep a can of compressed air handy. If you drop a flake of powder in the primer feed, you will have problems. Keep the primer ramp and ram clean.

6. Visit Lee's website or YouTube channel for instructions on how to adjust the Zbar (what pushes the case in station 1) so it doesn't pop out. Also, make sure you check out how to zero adjust the shell plate for correct timing.

Hope my tips help!
Happy reloading.

Got a lee pro 1000 very similar to this one somewhere else for about $170. Loaded about 500 rounds so far and after some adjustment and getting used to a progressive press i knocked out about 250 rounds in 45 min. just keep your primers full and you should be good.

I spent considerable time setting this guy up. I would shy away if you are not mechanically savvy. It was supposed to be dialed in from the factory but mine must have been built on a Friday as it required an almost total rebuild to get it running. I was very impressed when i mounted the case feeder tray as the speed at which you can load is surprising. All in all, this seems to be a good press. I took one star away for the poor instructions (thank Heaven for youtube). These must have been written by the same guy that does the Ikea documentation.

The illustration shows the assembly Lee sells, which uses the aluminum-base turret press. There is nothing in the world wrong with this original press; I personally loaded thousands of rounds of .45 with it a decade ago. Just clean and oil the ram every 500 or so rounds and it will last forever. The "Classic" version iron-base press will probably be all that is left of our civilization in a thousand years; I have no experience with it.

But the "cast iron" description of this unit is possibly misleading. Contact the seller to confirm the exact composition of the set before assuming that it comes with the iron-based press. For technical information, look around leeprecision.com. Again, the aluminum unit is fine, but don't pay extra based on a misleading description.

Straight out of the box these are closer to a 3.5 star press. After a little TLC and easy mods they are excellent presses that can easily produce 500 rounds an hour. Adding a bullet feeder really speeds things up. The main modification that I feel has to be done is throwing away the chain and weight setup on the powder feeder and replacing it with a small spring. Do this and all the powder feeding issues are a thing of the past.
Switching calibers is a bit of a hassle if you need to change the shell holder. Otherwise just swapping out dies is a quick process, especially if you buy extra die holders for each caliber. I have loaded several thousand rounds of 380, 38sp, 357, and 9mm and the money saved has paid for this press many times over. For the money Lee is the best progressive you can buy.

Easy to use and set up. I purchased the Pro 1000 because of the price. So far it has met all my expectations. I purchased additional accessories to increase my loading and decrease the time to load

Great loader I saw it in action on U tube and it helped a lot with setup. Only problem was broken powder cup due to shipping but lee sent me a new one with no questions asked.
