This review is from: Lee Hazlewood's The Pope's Daughter: His Fantasy Life with Nancy and Other Sinatra's (Paperback)
Lee Hazlewood is one of my all-time favorite songwriters. I've been listening too and collecting his albums for years. I think he is truly rare and unique talent. I guess that's why I was so disappointed to find this book be such utter CRAP. It seems to have been written a joke, and not a very well executed one either. The story is a rambling series of fantasy anecdotes, roughly chronicling his time with Nancy Sinatra. The dark wit and absurdity I so admire in his songcraft is replaced here with sophomoric word play that feels like it was it was written in one draft, in one afternoon and published as is. It's just junk. It almost seems calculated to be annoying. I'm sure Lee Hazlewood is capable of writing a fine book. Apparently he couldn't be bothered this time out. I guess fans (like me) will buy it anyway as a curiosity (you're going to feel burned).
