I Just Didn't Get It But Now I Do,

Change that Star rating to 4.5At first, when I tried these Minor harps, they didn't work at all with my regular blues music - but when I tried them with Reggae, they worked great. So then I tried them with other music and, of course, you have to find music written in a minor key like Ray Charles, "I Can't Stop Loving You" and then the beauty of these Harps becomes evident. A lot of songs you couldn't previously participate in become possible. I do not like the pretty sharp edges on these harp bodies but I intend to lightly file them to make them more comfortable for extended playing times. I love that these harps have their key letter written clearly on the key hole side rather than stamped in the metal like the Hohners. When I first rated these, I gave them one star and I would've like to change that to 4 and 1/2 but the editing process makes it imposible to change the star rating - something Amazon should modify

I've always played Hohner harps and decided to try a Lee Oscar after a friend recommended the brand. It plays well enough but feels light and "toy-like" in the hand. Since the price is comparable to the Hohner, I will probably stick with that brand in the future.

Best Ever - sweet sound,

This is the most soulful/mournful harmonica (Dm). The sound is very clean and easy to play. When the reeds get messed up you could just buy new reeds instead of a whole new harmonica. Definitely a great investment.

I played the Em Lee Oskar harp at a gig recently on a Latin American Samba and Rhumba tune. It sounded so good that people could not believe I only had played 2 days in my life. The point being, if you are musically inclined, this instrument will do it for you. Well worth every cent. I happen to know Lee Oskar but his harps were accessible through Amazon. I will shop for more.BlueSpace

Hohners don't last anywhere near as long as Oskars,
This review is from: Lee Oskar Harmonica, Natural Minor Key of D (Electronics)
This is a generic review for Oskar harmonicas. My Hohners were falling apart because I was damaging reeds because I really bend the snot out of notes. I thought it was just the nature of harmonicas to last a couple of months, but then I tried Lee Oskar. Perhaps it's the plastic comb, but they are, apparently, bulletproof. I've had my Lee Oskar for a year or so and it still plays like it's new. I'm about to buy a pack of harmonicas, and Lee Oskar is the brand for me.

These Harps Are Awesome...,

I don't understand the "Oops i gave it a 1 star... change to 4.5" because these things are the best blues harps made and deserve 5 stars...Don't write reviews if you're stupid... Or at least edit/delete them if you screw it up... Be sure to give any harp you buy some time to warm up, break the reeds in slowly. Don't be harsh on them and let them loosen up at first. Then you'll be bending and wailing on these things in no time for a long time. There's simply no better modern blues harp out there, this is all you need. As for the harmonica not working in your key... Duh... A harmonica has to be selected in the right key to play the right music... which is no reason to give it any deduction in rating because that's moronic user error. That's just a stupid user, not a bad product, you don't use a paring knife to chop down a tree and you don't use a minor key to play major key music... All the parts on these are completely replaceable too, from reeds to plates to comb it can all be taken apart and replaced piece by piece. However, if used correctly these should last a looooong long time! Tap them out after play and leave to air out for a while after play to keep the moisture from staying in the harp and shortening the life. It's a great product and I can't stand to see the stupid rap it's getting here from some inexperienced and computer challenged reviewer. The best you can buy for the money. 5 stars and a boost to the rating so these don't catch a bad rap for no reason at all from a screw up reviewer. |
