Lee Oskar, one of the better harmonica brands, was the first harp to have replaceable reed plates. Many of the quality harps have almost doubled in price in the last decade so replacing the reed plates when a reed goes out makes sense.

The Lee Oskar replacement reed plates come with detailed instructions and if you have the proper screwdriver (a #1 Phillips) the reed plates can be changed pretty quickly. So instead of buying a whole new harmonica when a reed goes bad, you can buy new reed plates and have a harp as good as new for about half the price.
