Under appreciated classic, August 19, 2007

I discovered this CD after buying Raven's career spanning Crazy Horse anthology. Two things jumped out. First, the band's earlier incarnation as the Rockets, a Buffalo Springfield influenced country rock band, showed both originality and a deft touch for songwriting. Who doesn't like a snarling fuzzed out guitar? Second, I was amazed by the four tracks from Left For Dead. The whole personality of the band shifted from a more country rock influenced sound, the songs got tougher and the guitar work better and better. Crazy Horse without Neil Young? You bet! Although there are no bad songs in this CD, World of Love, might as well be in Neil's top ten, including vocals that will make you wonder if he is an uncredited guest. I am sure this CD sank without a trace when released but it deserves another shot at the limelight - it's just that good. The overall sound is somewhere between early Neil Young (Everyone Knows and After The Gold Rush - think Southern Man) and BTO at their most creative (seems like an odd compliment but it's not). I have this CD in my car and find myself wishing they had put more than nine tracks on it. The recording sessions were inspired and, with some promotion, this CD could have given Crazy Horse are real shot at stardom in the 90s. The price is right so don't wait. Buy it, play it and write a review of your own! Purple Submarine

The Horse doesn't need a rider, September 8, 2005
That's right,Neil Young does not appear & that's just fine. With Neil or without,Crazy Horse is one of the most formidable sounding rock bands on the planet. If you like Neil's albums with the horse,then give this a try. The sound of rock & roll the way it should be...
