Basically, it stunk,

This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
Basically, it stunk. The DVD cover made it look like it might be really good. But I had a hard time making it to the end, and felt tempted many times to hit the "Stop" button and almost fell asleep during some of the slow moronic scenes. It came off not like a movie, but more like a bad horror music video, but without the music and loaded with incoherent freeze-frame scenes. Makers of "Thriller" need not worry.
Now what made me watch it then, aside from the DVD cover? Well, Victoria Maurette is hot. I kinda liked the final tag line, something like "Vengence will exist until there is no reason for it anymore", as Maurette shoots dead the "can't die" bad guy ghost vengence-killer, after he kills off all the evil prostitutes. There was a kernel of an idea for a story in there somwhere but it got mangled up and trashed in all that junk of a movie.

"Left for Dumb" or "Best Leave This One Alone",
By Xan I. "xan_i" (Somewhere in the Middle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
While it doesn't surprise me that awful movies like this get made (I guess high school kids need hobbies too), it does amaze me that they somehow get distributed. Having never made a movie myself, I now take great comfort in knowing that if I ever decide to take up movie making as a hobby, ANYBODY can now make one. Thank God for NetFlix! I would have been REALLY peeved if I had purchased this turd and wasn't able to get my money back. I mean it looked interesting enough as a Western/horror movie, but the DVD cover is the most exciting thing about "Left for Dead". The style of this movie is unlike anything I've ever seen, and that's not a good thing. The filmmaker thought it might be a neat idea to insert a freeze frame at the end of the scenes...every scene. I don't know if this was done for dramatic effect or to make the movie last longer. If you remove all of the freeze frames, you could probably whittle this mess down to a solid 45 minutes.
In all fairness, I only made it about 50 minutes into the movie, so the rest of the film might very well be brilliant, but I'll never know. All I know is that an hour of my life is now gone, and so one star is far too kind. Oh yeah, the story. A bunch of European looking prostitutes in an old Mexican mining town freak out and kill everybody (pre-movie storyline). The town preacher sells his soul in the hope of one day having revenge on the evil prostitutes. Yup. I guess the fact that the crazy prostitutes aren't a bunch of naked hotties is uncharacteristic for a movie like this. This movie (or at least the first 50 agonizing minutes) had no nudity, which is fine because the last thing I want to see is a bunch of naked sea-hags running around. The movie begins 15 years after the prostitutes killing spree and goes downhill from there. There's something about a jilted lover and the pregnant daughter of the prostitute leader. I won't go into detail, because even though this was probably the worst movie I've ever seen, I don't like to give away spoilers. If you want to know more about this movie, you must suffer like I did and watch it. The other reviews give this movie 5 stars. Don't believe a single one of those reviews!! There is NO WAY that anybody could give this thing 5 stars!! Though the other reviewers say they are not the makers of the movie, there's a good chance they are probably the director's proud parents. Some bad movies are fun to watch and this is not one of them. Bad acting, bad script, bad effects, and dumb story don't equal good B-movie. This movie is no Plan 9 From Outer Space and will NEVER be a classic, despite what its own marketing claims. If you must watch this movie, do so at your own risk and rent it...but you've been warned. (This movie was so bad that I was compelled to write this review from my cell phone.)

Watchable western genre. in the vein of the jonah hex film. not sure on budget but ok especially for comic book fans. freeze frame action was unexplainably used often and gave me a headache.

NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK...,
By
This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
At least it is not as bad as the many other reviews here on Amazon. The one main problem with this film, IS the many constant freeze-frame shots. They do become a head ache after awhile, and are over done and over used. As for the acting, well it is something to be desired... but I've seen worse. The FX's are somewhat low budget, but passable. The biggest problem, beside the constant freeze frame shots... was the scene with the dead impaled baby... pretty gruesome!
In the short, this is not a bad movie... it is not a great movie... it is a decent film. It could have been a awesome movie with different actors and director... but, what do you want from a b-movie? Citizen Kane?

"Left For Bed",
By
This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
The marketing guys got me again with the box art. Drew me right in. Hot chicks in a bloody western with a touch of the occult? I'm there. Plus the director won the award for the Best Director at the Estepona Horror and Fantasy Film Festival. Where is Estepona anyway? I have know a guy named Estepona, maybe the festival was in his family room. Oh! I forgot the movie, well I struggled to make it through, but in the end I turned it off and went to bed. A totally incoherent plot, a director whose never heard of storyboarding, and cinematographer in love with his cool digital toys, freeze frames to the point where I thought the DVD locked up, herky jerky camera work, not much in the way of gore. Take "Manos Hands of Fate" and try to spruce it up with the visual elements of "Natural Born Killers" and place it in the $3 bin at Big Lots and you have a formula for excess.

Clever packaging disguises a bad movie,
By
This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
I work in the marketing field, but even I was lured in. This film somehow attracted three small festival awards, according to the DVD packaging, which is slick and attractive. The back cover's plot synopsis reads well, too. There's even a quote from some faux reviewer who believes this film to be a blend of Saw and a spaghetti western. No, no, NO. Nearly every aspect of this film conspires to put the viewer to sleep. I fell asleep three times, something I've never ever done during a movie before. To begin, the credits last for over five minutes?! And then there are the freeze frames. It's as if the director just learned a new trick. If you took all the freeze frames out, this movie would be half as long. The plot, the dialogue, the characters and the action sequences are all painful and improbable. There are no great shoot-outs, no crisp repartee, no characters to identify with, and no reason to suspend disbelief. This is just one long, lousy movie. The lead actress is hot, no doubt, and the cinematography has a richly saturated sheen to it, but what's the point? This movie should have been left for dead, but somehow got released anyway. Avoid it at all costs.

This movie is way too bad for even one star!,

I read here where one other reviewer actually made it to 50 minutes before giving up on this 'movie!' Me, I hit the eject button somewhere around 23 minutes and still felt stupid for watching that much of it. The women are ugly, the soudtrack should only be listened to by the deaf, the dialogue is tortured, the acting ability somewhere between high school and jr. college drama club and the ridiculously stupid freeze frames make me want to track down the director and gut shoot him so he suffers as much as I did and you will if you buy or even rent this movie.
If you still do rent or buy this movie remember this: You were warned! I am also disappointed that Amazon doesn't allow less than one star for rating movies because there is NO way this movie deservres even one star!

I THINK THIS WAS FILMED IN MY BACKYARD,

Complete Garbage. I love Horror movies and Westerns. This REALLY isn't either one. I'm not sure how this got out of the can. Somebody knows someones Uncle in the business or something.
Watch this only if you like watching the paint dry or if you like to watch water boil. If so then this is for you! Negative stars x infinity.

AWWWFUL,

I don't even recognize this as being a movie. Its garbage and I feel bad for those who paid to see it. I could only take 20 minutes of the bad acting, sound, lack of story development except on the back of the cover and it looks liked it was filmed on the side of the road or anywhere where they found a few trees. Not a western or horror, not even good enough to be a music video. Sorry, but I don't like being ripped off!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Left for Dead (DVD)
The other critics may be right as I found this film a bit klunky through its graphic design defying crediits and on into scenes that seemed very low budget; and then I began to enjoy the film and even adore its style and panach. This flick is worth a look. I'll watch it many times. The dubbing accents are something else as the pretty lead lady sounds like "Scarlett O'Eastwood" and the effects good enough (Cheese but good) for this beyond MTV edited, Chics with Guns, B-film. Don't miss out on this "to become cult movie." My copy from Amazon is the real deal. I like it.
