Spooky, Riveting, Comprehensive, and Strange,
By Simeon Hein "Planetary Intelligence author" (www.OpeningMinds.info, Boulder, CO, USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Left at East Gate: A First-Hand Account of the Bentwaters-Woodbridge UFO Incident, Its Cover-Up and Investigation (Paperback)
Warren and Robbins raise a lot of questions in this narrative of Larry Warren's experiences at R.A.F. Bentwaters base in late 1980. Reading this book leaves you feeling no doubt that something of extreme importance happened to at least twenty military policeman at the base over the course of three nights. There were local witnesses from outside the base also who observed strange light anomalies in the area during those nights. What really happened at Bentwaters? We don't know exactly but something related to UFOs occurred there leaving indelible, bizarre memories in the witnesses.
Reading this book makes you sympathize with experiencers like Warren who have nowhere to go to share their experiences. They are subject to ridicule, psychological stress, and threats from the military and government black operations. Surely, we as a society can do better than the type of treatment Warren received. After all, when he went out to that remote clearing in the woods that fateful night, along with his comrades, he was doing his job which was to protect the base, one of the largest storehouses of U.S. nuclear weapons in Europe. This is the most complete book on the Bentwaters case and vividly demonstrates the need for us to get to the truth about UFO phenomenon. The book is somewhat rambling at times but covers every aspect of Warren's encounter in detail. Coauthor Peter Robbins adds a voice of credulity to the whole affair. Overall, this book will inform you, make you mad, and leave you curious and wondering how large our universe really is and who inhabits it with us. (Dr. Simeon Hein is the author of Opening Minds: A Journey of Extraordinary Encounters, Crop Circles, and Resonance, and the forthcoming Planetary Intelligence: 101 Easy Steps to Energy, Well-Being, and Natural Insight.)

Larry and I went to school together. We were close in Junior high, but drifted apart when he went into the military. He had mentioned the Bentwaters thing, but never went into too much detail. I knew a lot of guys who went in the military relatively sane and came out messed up. After reading his book, I was left with a fascinating insight as to what he went through these past years. Regardless of how you feel about UFO's or the government, you should read this book. Have patience, read the whole thing. Then try to figure out why the rest of us just sit around and let things like this happen while a certain very few contend with all the whacko's out there to attempt to open the public's eyes. Sorry Larry, the rest of the world prefers to stay sleeping.

Well written and interesting throughout. I was working in the WSA at Bentwaters on D Flight during the UFO sightings. I remember the radio transmissions and most of the people working during that time. Warren and Robbins clarify what were only rumours during the those strange nights following Christmas, 1980. Since reading the book, I've contacted several former D Flight members and encouraged them to buy 'Left at East Gate'.

Whether you believe Larry Warren's account of events surrounding the Bentwaters indcidents or not, this book makes for interesting reading.According to Larry, he's had contact with ETs since he was a child. Bentwaters was just another example. But what an example. This book deals with the before, during and after of an incident that occurred around Christmas 1980, when a UFO supposedly crashed in Rendelsham forest next to a US airbase containing nuclear weapons. The UFO and entities contained therein were observed at close quarters by a number of American servicemen, Larry being one of them. This book is, of course, just the version given by one person and thus, cannot be taken as a definitive account. Indeed, as other reviewers have pointed out, Larry was interviewed by Georgina Bruni for her book on the subject and she found herself frustrated by his ever-changing account of events. Whilst it's true that something strange went on in Rendelsham forest on Christmas 1980, it may be a long time before we find out the whole truth. This book, though, may give you an idea of what went on.

This review is from: Left at East Gate: A First-Hand Account of the Bentwaters-Woodbridge UFO Incident, Its Cover-Up and Investigation (Paperback)
Coauthor Peter Robbins sums it up nicely in the last three sentences of the book. "This story is far from over. In fact, it's just beginning to get interesting. Believe it, my friend." And with that the book quits, it doesn't end, it just quits. In fact it quits before the end several times. Like when Bud Hopkins is regressing Larry Warren about his abduction to an underground base. The book talks a lot in several places about this experience, and when the reader gets to the regression and thinks, "now, I'm going to find out the truth," Larry says he doesn't like this and wants to get out of this mode. So Hopkins brings him back and says they'll go further another time, which of course they don't.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt claims to have a different version of Warren's service records which indicated Warren wasn't even on the base at the time of the incident. After numerous telephone conversations they go to all the trouble to set up a meeting with Halt in Washington, DC, to show Halt Warren's copies of his service record, and then never ask Halt to see the version of Warren's service records that he had received from his government inquiries. This seemed inexcusable for a serious investigation to me. Close to the end of the book Robbins offers a weak excuse for not pinning Halt down. Regarding contributions to the book, Warren was the person who had the experience in Rendlesham Forest. Robbins is an investigator and a writer. Both authors contribute chapters to the book; Robbins' contribution is all printed in italics making it somewhat difficult to read. The two writers at times give two views of the same event. A lot of the book deals with their experience in writing the book, and the impact that the event and the book had on both of their lives, and the lives of their families and friends. While interesting at times, it contributed little toward presenting their story and explaining what occurred in Rendlesham Forest in December of 1980. The book is really unique in that much of it is direct, unedited transcriptions of recordings made of individuals that Robbins had interviewed or had conversations with. Some if the dialog doesn't make sense and reading it is really tedious. The book talks about the audio tape that Lieutenant Colonel Halt made during the third night's close encounter of the third kind, and since the reader has to plod through transcript after transcript of other tape recordings, one would assume that the bomb shell will be the transcript of Halt's tape. Alas, it never happens. No transcript, only Warren's recollection. Disappointing. A little more editing might have made the book flow more smoothly, but it is easy to follow. On the positive side this book is probably the best, most detailed, albeit somewhat fragmented, account of the Bentwaters - Woodbridge UFO incident that I have read so far, and a lot less expensive than Georgina Bruni's, "You Can't Tell the People" ($49.99) or Sir Peter Horsley's, "Sounds from another Room" ($26.37), both of which are said to address the subject. As Warren relates the incidents he does so in a manner that takes the reader along through the experience with him. There are parts of the book that move rather slowly, but also many parts where you can't lay it down, and there is no doubt that Airman Larry Warren experienced something extraordinary that night in December 1980. Something real, tangible, and significant happened that night, the craft observed was not known to local British or American military authorities, and that the governments of both nations have stifled all attempts obtain information, explain the incident, and to honestly inform the public about exactly what took place. Sadly there is no single explanation for the incident. No answers, no smoking gun, no exposure of the reason for the cover-up, only more questions, and more apparent cover-ups, to which readers of UFO literature should have now become accustomed. I would really like to know however, why Deputy Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt chose not to write the forward to the book. The book has numerous black and white pictures and several sketches, and if the events related here are true, the book represents a very important work about an event that rivals Roswell in importance, and deserves an even more in depth study. If you enjoy reading and searching for the truth on this subject, "Left at East Gate" is a worthy addition to your library.

I was scanning the library shelves here in Manhattan for something to read for a wintry weekend. Wow! This book scared the hell out of me. For some of the detractors I've read here, were you reading the same book? What chilled me is that Larry Warren is such a down-to-earth guy. He could have sought fame and fortune some other way than baring his experiences here. And for doing so, he has fought a war against the military, the powerful federal agents who hide the secrets and hypocritical politicians and vicious old military officials. That something really did happen at Bentwaters-Woodbridge is no longer in question. Even some of Larry's enemies admit something incredible happened at the base. This has been documented in numerous documentaries and articles. I hope Larry and his terrific co-author, Peter Robbins, write a sequel and go more into detail about the nightmarish world beneath the military site. Larry has definitely showed enough guts and bravery to receive an award of some kind. I hereby create the UFO Hero of the Year Award to be presented to Larry Warren!

This review is from: Left at East Gate: A First-Hand Account of the Bentwaters-Woodbridge Ufo Incident, Its Cover-Up, and Investigation (Hardcover)
First of all this book undoubtably uncovers the REAL events at Bentwaters 1980! I do however sense there is more to come from this in the near future! We also need to remeber who was at this incident, Larry Warren. Peter Robbins is the researcher of this incident. To state in public that this man is a liar and con artist is a testimony of ones ignorance and in ability to see the forest for the trees! We cannot embark on this subject with a closed mind and ignore EVIDENCE that would be acceptable in any court of law. We should be thankful to Mr. Warren for having the courage to uncover this incident, for without him we would have no clue what happened in December 1980. I have the sense after reading this book that what would be considered UFO researchers are all behind the wall of denial and have only hindered the full dislosure of the Bentwaters incident. Larry is undoubtably the Frank Serpico of Ufology, bar none! Others who are hell bent to disparage Mr. Warrens character, should read more Bigfoot novels and leave the serious UFO research to the many people who are commited to uncovering the truth and not Character assasination. I believe his work in this book is brilliant and should be read worlwide! My hat is off to Larry, Peter I am sure is being well rewarded for his brilliant research ...no kudos needed there.

After reading the book, I purchased the CD-ROM version of the book at the Omega UFO Seminar where it was demonstrated. It is even better than the book, in the sense that you can see the authors visit the actual landing site on video, and see many more maps and photos. If you liked the book, then you'll probably love spending time with the CD-ROM version. Released by a NYC company called Software Sculptors.

I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters. Working in Law Enforcement I stood watch (entry controller) to EAST GATE (RAF WOODBRIDGE) The gate was at the end of a runway. During the day it was loud, but at night it was scary. Sometimes when the fog
would roll onto the runway, you could see East End
Charlie (beheaded walking the runway) One night
my buddy and I were on patrol, when we saw a bright flash in the sky. We were scared, but
drove bat out of hell to the control tower. They
said it could have been an after burner from a
British Fighter. After reading this book, I DON'T
THINK SO.

This is Larry Warren's record of events prior to, during and following his airforce posting to the Bentwaters Airbase in England, during the early eighties. The book is obviously very carefully researched and the authors are meticulous in their attenpts to present the famous Bentwaters UFO landings as closely as human memory will allow. The book will not appease those who approach it with built-in preconceptions about the nature of reality and those whose thinking is imprisoned within a rigid framework. This has to be one of THE most important UFO landing cases, involving as it does the confirmatory evidence from military personnel from the Base Commander downwards
