The production on this CD isn't the best. As was the case with the original "Left for Live," the tracks are all taken from a live board mix. This means we only hear John Entwistle's bass through on stage mics, clearly not the best way to record it.

Just fyi - the MP3 version only contains disc #1's music and not disc number 2...so for the reduced price you only get 1/2 of the cd! Amazon did a great job at refunding me (I contacted them right away)...but buyer beware.

However, Steve Luongo has tried to re-create what sitting the audience was like. The on-stage banter reveals Entwistle's humorous personality. And like a few shows I saw, the band stops a song after John fumbles it, only to nail it after a joke.

For the casual listener, buy the King Biscuit CD, or the "Thunderfingers" collection. For fans like me, this a great way to remember a musical genius in his favorite setting.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE WHO S' MUSIC PLAYED BY THE OX BAND!!!, March 5, 2006
This review is from: Left for Live: Deluxe (Audio CD)
This double cd reveals the inner feelings of John Entwistle as he can play for the first time and with his own band, many of the songs he wrote and recorded with THE WHO, but never played in concert with them. I will never understand why he never stayed strong for him to sing and the Who to play more of his songs (in the later years) others than "My Wife" or "Boris the Spider". Only on the 1982 tour THE WHO gave him more spot playing not only "My Wife" or "Boris the Spider", but also "Dangerous" or "The Quiet One". For the 1989 tour THE WHO played "Too Late the Hero" on their first five concerts and then retired the song to include "Trick of the Light", "Fiddle About" or ocasionally "Cousin Kevin" in addition to "My Wife" and "Boris the Spider". So here he plays all the aforementioned songs but also, "905", "Succes Story", "Wiskey Man", "Heaven and Hell" and many others recorded with THE WHO. Also in the set some solo songs mainly from his last studio cd "MUSIC FOR VAMPYRES". So this cd may be considered as the concert THE WHO never played. When John Entwistle died i hoped for his band THE WHO, to play more of his songs as a way to remember him, but not one of the songs he penned for the band has been played since. Their management has not even take the time to produce a cd with other people playin his songs or to organize a concert to honour him playin the songs he wrote for THE WHO...it is a shame.

For newcomers and old fans this is a good cd but the production is not the best. Lets hope another live cd with better production arrives one day. I understand the JEB Woodstock concert will be produced in dvd and cd as well. Also there are many unreleased songs he recorded for his first albums and also for the "Vampire" cd sessions. And also, his drummer STEVE LUONGO has said that John Entwistle did record many new songs as "demos" for the upcoming new WHO cd.

Here the best songs are "Trick of the Light", "905", "Had Enough", "Wiskey Man" and "Under a Ragin Moon" among many others.

Great stuff here! While John is now gone, the others remain. It is best to pay attention to the work of Steve Luongo. Specifically the track: "Under a raging Moon". Clearly Luongo is a master of his trade; Moon would have been impressed.

Left for Live is a must have for Ox fans. It is a series of very clean live records from the JEB's last tour and brings me back to when I saw them at that time. It rocks. John's bass is magnificent and Godfrey Townsend (no relation--I believe)is a remarkable guitar player. Godfrey's take on songs such as "Young Man Blues" will blow you head off. "Under the Raging Moon" is another notable track with a solid drum solo and clocks in at about 12 min's. This is two CD's of a very high energy powerhouse band. Go for it!

Unfortunately, great performances are severely marred by terrible production (bad recording techniques, mixing and mastering) and the results are an unlistenable CD. Some examples of this are digital overload on "Darker Side Of Night", which could cause speaker damage to your stereo, drums that are recorded like "drum sticks hitting a coke bottle", cymbals that are mixed so loud that they crash through your ears, etc...

If you want a great live John Entwistle CD, go for the King Biscuit!
