Lesser-Known Masterpiece,
By Robert Keil (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From Left to Right (Audio CD)
This is an absolutely wonderful album of terriffic compositions, masterfully played by Evans. His Rhodes electric piano work is delicate yet full of emotion and technical mastery. His acoustic piano is heard with equal weight, also and is great as always. This is a fulfilling album all the way through. "Soiree" is my favorite of the set, easily one of the most beautiful recordings I have ever heard. One slight annoyance is a fairly high level of tape hiss, which must be inherent in the original master recording. Too bad this music was out of print for so many years. I cannot recommend this album highly enough. In a word: Buy it.

An underrated masterpiece,

I heard this album for the first time last year, and has truly been a rewarding experience. On "From Left, To Right" Bill Evans moves effortlessly back and forth from the grand piano to the Rhodes electric piano. I love the two versions of "The Dolphin", one with the just the band and the second with string and percussion overdubs. It's almost a crime that this album stayed out of print for so long. It's prompted me to pick up other albums from him. This is supreme mood music, and is one you should hear for yourself.

A hidden ttreasure!,
By Hiram Gomez Pardo (Valencia, Venezuela) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

I just knew about this golden treasure album due a magnificent surprise gift of one beloved and estimated friend, last Saturday. In this work Evans once more exhibits with all his virtues some little and intimate musical gems. Michel Legrand' s What are you doing the rest of your life? is played with such introspective mood as I had never listened never before. Why did I choose you? expresses with meditative and serene calm, a decisive love's homage. Lullaby for Helene and Like someone on love make of this CD an appropriate pretext to listen over and over under the twilight, dawn, proving once more the artistic stature of this everlasting jazz legend.

It's Like Children at PLay,

This review is from: From Left to Right (Audio CD)
I was never able to enjoy Jazz, I was very closed minded with music styles and I was not willing to change. Nearly a year ago I overheard someone playing "From Left to Right" and the song "Children at Play" at my work place. My eyes popped wide open and I asked the individual, "Who is this, and can I buy it!?" That is the type of impact that this album can have, even for those who never thought they could enjoy Jazz. Bill Evans opened up doors for my musical libary and my musical mind.

Is this the real Bill Evans? I have no idea but it's Beautiful!,
This review is from: From Left to Right (Audio CD)
This may not be a typical Bill Evans jazz recording, but it is absolutely gorgeous melodic music... I love the interplay between the Rhodes and the classical piano.

Unpleasant,
This review is from: From Left to Right (Audio CD)
I have to agree with the last review. I love Bill Evans... but this album is 90% trash. The orchestration adds nothing to the music except echoing Evan's -mostly- substandard improvisation. It sounds like he's making music out of habit not desire. The only interesting thing is the sound of the keyboard. Try one of the four albums he made Scott LaFaro!!!!!!!!! All are clasics.

It's Not Bill Evans,

This review is from: From Left to Right (Audio CD)
Sorry, guys, but this is not the music for which we like Bill Evans. I think this is not Bill Evans music at all. For all those who want to know who real Bill Evans is, I would recommend 'Moonbeams' and/or 'I will say goodbye'. These are very good albums to begin with.
