4.0 out of 5 stars Wish she'd multi-tracked, but still fantastic... November 1, 2008
Format:MP3 Music
I agree with the other reviewers that her YouTube recordings are better...if only for her multi-tracking and the harmonies that follow. Nonetheless, Julia Nunes has a B-E-A-UTIFUL voice. She has a certain tone of raw emotion that hits the core.

Support this young artist and help her make it big, you won't regret it. :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw but promising August 12, 2010
By M. Fay
Format:MP3 Music
Left Right Wrong is Julia Nunes' first self-released album. It is very raw, but if you like her early YouTube videos, you'll likely like this album okay.

I will say that the production is pretty raw. I believe she sat on a bench and played her guitar/ukelele at a microphone, if I remember correctly (Hey, it worked for Johnny Cash). Left Right Wrong also has a couple of live tracks.

Now, don't get me wrong, but this album is pretty minimalist. Still, I like that -- just Julia and her guitar/ukelele, and maybe a couple of background voice tracks. I like the way she sings, and I like her voice. I have no illusions of using hyperbolic description. I like her voice is not the same thing as saying she has a beautiful voice, especially since I don't think she does. I just like her voice. It's comfortable to me.

But I won't say that Julia is for everyone. My wife, for example, hates listening to her. Then again, my wife likes Enrique Eglasias, so there's no accounting for taste. If you want a full sample before buying her album, go check out her YouTube page - jaaaaaaa is her YouTube handle. She has done versions of several of the songs on this album on YouTube.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yellin' on key works for me January 11, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
To say this is a minimally produced album is an understatement -- it's Julia Nunes, playing guitar and singing. So if richly produced music is what you want to hear, then maybe this album is not for you. Try "I Wrote These" instead, although it's not really richly produced either.

On this album, she sings. Full volume, everything she's got, no layered tracks or artificial harmony, and the quality songwriting and emotion come right through. Early in some songs, you're thinking, "Huh, is this all there is?", and then she turns around and blows your brains out with massive power lyrics that leave you reeling. Almost every song has a distinct "wow" moment.

And that's pretty high praise for a first album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw but fascinating June 18, 2008
Format:Audio CD
Look,

I agree with the first review in the sense that the album is a little monotone stylistically. Listen beyond that, though. Hear the lyrical content, the uniqueness of the vocals. The emotionality in her diction. Who knows why she didn't multi-track (self harmonize) on the album. Suffice it to say, it wasn't made on a big budget. Don't miss out on Left Right Wrong because it isn't produced to the hilt. Pick up the album because she's different...In a good way; because she's got something to say and she says it.
