4.0 out of 5 stars Got some keepers
This is the first album that I have reviewed, and the only reason that I have is that I feel the customer reviews on this album are too low. I don't mind critiquing the functionality of utilitarian items, but I don't see much value in arguing over things that are a matter of taste. It is as if I asked someone what his favorite color was, and then argued that my favorite...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lefty Lovers
Even though this album wasn't a big seller, its still a great album. The songs that were the best to me were the ones that have the word "LOVE" in them: "I Have A Love", "So Much In Love", "Love Is The Only Chain", "When A Man Loves A Woman", and "If Love Takes You Away". Of all the other songs, "This Is The Moment" was the best one to me. In my opinion, love ballads are...

This is the first album that I have reviewed, and the only reason that I have is that I feel the customer reviews on this album are too low. I don't mind critiquing the functionality of utilitarian items, but I don't see much value in arguing over things that are a matter of taste. It is as if I asked someone what his favorite color was, and then argued that my favorite color is better than his favorite color.

I have imported this album to my iTunes, and I have starred two songs with 4 stars and two songs with five stars. It is interesting to me that the two stars that I gave 5 stars too did not rate mention on some of the other reviews. The two I liked best were "Love is the Only Chain" and "King of Tonga." Why do I like them best? because they have enough dynamics and tempo to keep me awake, and are simply ear candy to me.

My music collection is large enough that I only listen to my 4 and 5 star selections. Since I have 4 keepers out of this album, I rate it a 4 stars for Amazon's review purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great delivery!, February 5, 2012

After Simon and Garfunkel broke up and each artist went on to solo careers, I gravitated naturally towards Artie's silky voice and often laid-back and romantic tunes. Although I loved Simon and Garfunkel the team and the type of music Simon wrote back in the 60s, he lost me in the 70s with his corny, pop-oriented jingles like: Kodachrome and Fifty Ways to Leave your Lover. I felt Artie did a much better job of keeping some semblance of the feel of the original types of songs that made the duo famous. "Lefty" itself is diverse with every song being either fun or beautiful, and most important - creative. Amazingly, it's content has stood the test of time and does not sound dated at all even though it was released in the late techno 80s. Artie has never tried to pander to changing styles of music but instead, just does what he does best, even if there may not be a mega market for it. I greatly appreciate that about him. I also think that his rendition of, When a Man Loves a Woman, is arguably the best ever done. If you're an Art Garfunkel fan, then Lefty is a must-have for your collection.

I like Art Garfunkel, but only buy this cd for a fantastic ballad "I Wonder Why." I also liked less "So Much In Love". It was worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lesser known Art Garfunkel, April 1, 2010

This is a good, but obscure, part of Art Garfunkel's works on Columbia. Bought the CD for 'I Wonder Why'. Several tunes are melodic and good to listen to, especially if you are a Garfunkel fan.

Just about all recording artists go through a cycle like that. Artie is still a romantic, sounding singer.

Of all of Art Garfunkels albums, I find this to be the weakest.

That is NOT to say it is bad, however. Each song has it's own charm.

I Wonder Why, When A Man Loves A Woman and If Love Takes You Away are my favourites.

King of Tonga is probably the most bizarre Garfunkel song I have ever heard, although it is capturing somehow.

The other songs all have their strong points, although they don't feel as epic as his best work, and they seem somewhat lost on this album.

Overall, Lefty doesn't quite reach Garfunkels usual standards, and I would not recommended this as the first Garfunkel CD to buy, that is Angel Clare, his first solo album.
