An Ode To South Paws Like Myself, March 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Lefty (Paperback)
I tip my hat (using my left hand) to the people who made this book. I absolutely LOVE it. I first bought it from a book order in 7th-grade when I was 13 and still love the heck out of it 6 years later. I also love how Scholastic sent a "left-handed" pencil with it when I ordered it (the writing on the pencil, which said "Lefties are always right," ran in the opposite direction that writing usually runs on pens and pencils.)
The book is hysterical and really enlightening, too. It has all these neat historical facts about the bizarre things, superstitions and mythologies that have centered around hands over the years, like how wedding bands are worn on the left ring finger because there is supposedly a vein in that finger that runs directly to the heart and how identical twins are usually opposite handed. It also lists a slew of celebs and other famous people who were/are left-handed, including Kermit the Frog and Bart Simpson (that was a priceless touch on the authors' part) as well as their creators, Jim Henson and Matt Groening. I can't begin to list everything wonderful about this book, though. Just take my word that buying this book is well worth it...even if you aren't left-handed (you're just more likely to enjoy it more if you're a lefty seeings how this is one of the few perks we get in a right-handed world.) It even opens and runs "backwards." Get the book. I highly recommend it. It's priceless.
P.S. FYI Another good cartoon character who happens to be left-handed (but overlooked by the book) is Doug Funni from Nickolodean.
