Martin Luther of post modern piano, December 17, 2006

Arguably, Gould was the first postmodern pianist: the Martin Luther of 20th Century piano. He swept, utterly and finally, the Romantic playing tradition conceits. Recall Grand Dame Landawska's:" Very well, my dear: you play Bach your way, and I'll play him HIS way."
Here Gould is at his best indulging in his innate and miraculous contrapuntal sensibilities. Highly recommended.
