The True Legacy,
This review is from: Legacy: Deluxe Edition (Audio CD)
Finally a double disc that is worthy of Boyz ii men's true legendary status, unlike the 1st version which was only for the Curious. This is true value for money especially for people who missed on the Remix collection in 95. The 1st Disc is a compilation of all charted boyz ii men songs and is great for those who are just getting introduced to their music, or for collectors who felt shy to pick up one or more of their CDs. The 2nd Disc is really gold esp. for fans, diehard, cursory, or just those looking to hear the best music in the world. There are some wholly new remixes. I especially love the jazzy version of Vibin. It is also a compilation of songs that could previously only be found in other artists CDs: One Sweet Day with Mariah, Hey Lover with LL Cool J, Not me(previously unreleased), Visions of a Sunset by Shawn Stockman (Mr. Holland's Opus soundtrack), I will get there (Prince of Egypt soundtrack) and Your home is in my heart with Chanté Moore(How stella got her groove back soundtrack).

Boyz II Men shows why their legacy will live on.,

This review is from: Legacy: Deluxe Edition (Audio CD)
Absolutely this CD was worth the buck with disc 2. Disc 2 is all that I listen to with all of the remixes especially of "I'll Make Love To You" & "Water Runs Dry". To me what separates Boyz II Men from the rest of the pack besides a group like Intro is that they talk about love and life. That is something that is definitely lacking in today's music trend. Also, this group don't really have a lot of appearances by other artists that really makes this group special. Boyz II Men has set the bar for anybody to top what they did and I don't think that the way the music is going today that no one will come close to what they have accomplished. So guys, great job and great compilation!!!

90's Soul N' Voices,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Legacy: Deluxe Edition (Audio CD)
Arguably, when it really seems to come down to it, the 1990's really brought over some great performers in that time period. Each style and standard really set a whole difference of boundaries and influences. That ultimately was the case with Boyz II Men. During their era of monster hits, they truly broke Motown records, and scored massive hits on the Billboard charts. Utimately, Nathan, Michael, Shawn and Wanya have made some of the most influential songs of their days. The flipside was that they were accused of being typecasted among the Boy Band era against groups like Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and 98 Degrees. That unfortunately lead to the groups downfall, but they were not manufactured like those other Boy Bands. The reissuing Deluxe Edition of Legacy, their 2001 Greatest Hits collection really goes a little bit more than meets the eye. The collection is similar to another artists' hits album, Whitney Houston. The record has one side of their hits, but the other disc has a huge amount of remixed versions of Boyz II Men hit tracks. Still, the record does have some upsides with them. One of them is that the collection does include some spotlighted tracks that were overlooked on the previous hits collection, including I Will Get There, from The Prince Of Egypt, Thank You, and a few solo tracks that the group have conjured, including Wanya's big duet with Brandy on the collaboration, Brokenhearted, and Shawn Stockman beautifully created solo track, Visions Of A Sunset, from the Richard Dreyfuss movie, Mr. Holland's Opus. The album also does include a lot of the tracks of the original version including I'll Make Love To You, On Bended Knee, Mowtownphilly, Hey Lover, Song For Mama, and Pass You By. Still, this collection of tracks is for the die hard Boyz II Men fanatic. I strongly suggest that this one is an edition to the previous version of Legacy. If you don't have Legacy, this one truly is a nice add-on to your music collection. It does bring a lot more than all those manufactured acts out there today.

I was so excited about recieving this collection in the mail. Listening to it from beginning to end brought back so many great memories. I had almost forgotten how many great songs BoysIImen had. My daughter listened to the CD with me on our long trip last month and also really enjoyed these "oldies!"

Music for the soulful, romance for the couples, and good tunes for the music lover. When you just want some music that isn't todays hip hop and R & B this deluxe cd will take you to that place where the good ol' days were. Music for the soul, its smooth and relaxing.

Now this is the way a greatest hits should be,

Boyz II Men first released Legacy back in 2001 to little fan fare as the disc included no rare songs or remix's. In 2004 it was released as a Deluxe with the unreleased tracks and the remix's fans wanted. Granted some of the early remix's appeared on 1995 remix collection but the Timbaland remix of Can't Let Her Go is extremly rare and it appears on the disc as does Not Me from the Aida soundtrack and Wayna's duet with ex Brandy Brokenhearted. Listening to this disc takes a listener back to when R&B wasn't all cookie cutter and actually meant something. Listening to the remix's of I'll Make Love To You, On Bended Knee and Water Runs Dry will surely bring up memories for anyone who was in middle or high school when the II disc dropped.

Price of double CD is way too high!,

I would be better off with the single edition than the deluxe. The price is TOO HIGH for it in some stores--$27, $28, $34 or $32 in some places. This sounds more like a greed thing for Boyz II Men than the music itself. Plus the song selection isn't very well done with the remixes and other songs along with the hits. I liked the 13-song set of this album better than this bloated package. The high price for it is a complete turnoff and it should have been affordable for the consumer. While Boyz II Men get high marks for their music and harmonizing, this double CD packaging comes off as distracting and misguiding and not as well done as other artists' greatest hits' compilations.
