5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Book for Dog Lovers Everywhere!, March 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
If you are a dog lover, and would like to learn more about particular dog breeds, this book is excellent! It includes AKC Registered dogs, as well as a whole lot of other breeds. The pictures are beautiful, and the format is easy to read and understand. Also, if you are not familiar with dog terminology-rat tail-brindle (a color)-this book provides an excellent glossary. One of my favorite features us the way the group's members (ex: herding, sporting, etc.) have the pictures of ALL the dogs so you know what the book has at a glance. I also LOVE the way they show you what the colors are by taking a picture of them and putting them in little boxes. They also define pictorally the body parts of a dog, head and face types, eyes, ears, and tail types. Overall, this book is the best I have seen! I'd recommend this book to ANYone, dog lover or not, to learn about the dogs...Happy Reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely photographs ..., May 20, 2001

This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
If you're looking for a book with lovely photographs of lots of dogs ... this is the perfect book ... There are over 200 colour images, each breed is represented by several photographs ... Especially like the fact that the age of the dogs are also mentioned ... It's been produced with typical Japanese attention to small details ... the pictures are well taken and reproduced, images sharp & colours true ... the paper quality and binding good ...

However ... if you are looking for pictures & INFORMATION on the breeds themselves ... then this book might disappoint somewhat ... We found breed information to be rather sparse ... its not going to assist very much as a guide to finding a suitable breed ... For breed information try some other books that Amazon keep in stock (eg. Barron's Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds)...

But then ... this book doesn't hold itself out to be anything more than a photographic record and general guide to dog breeds ... so 5 stars

Good book to place on the coffee table, to keep visitors visually entertained while you get the tea & cookies ready ...

This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
This is a must have book for dog lovers. We continue to find the information in the book interesting after referencing the book for over two years now. We keep finding little details on various breeds that we pass along to friends and family to help them with their decisions concerning dog ownership. It really is a great collection of pictures and information. It also makes a great gift!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good general guide, August 18, 2002

This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
This book contains fantastic photographs and brief write-ups of 200 breeds of dogs. I would have liked more information on each breed, especially info on temperament. The photos are top-notch, however, beautifully done. Definitely a good, though pricy, general guide to review when you are considering what kind of dog to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just doing my homework, May 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
As a potential dog owner who is just beginning the process of researching all we need to know before the search for our newest family member begins, I found this book most helpful in identifying breeds. This book did not offer the detailed information I believe we need to make an informed decision regarding what breed is right for our situation. However, it seems to have just the right amount of information for a kid! My 8 and 10-year-old have spent hour upon hour reading and discussing it's content. Simple text and nice photography. A good starting off point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish Terrier!!!, February 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
Well, the cover did it for me, a beautiful example of the breed I own and love, the Irish Terrier. Great book, great photos, good listing of many non-AKC breeds such as the Cesky Terrier and Smoushound and many others.

Worth a buy!

I bought this book because I had a gift certificate and had to use it up. Boy was I glad that I bought this!
This book has so many good pictures of so many different breeds, it is wonderful. There is the common breeds like the Golden Retriever and the Labrador and than there's the uncommon ones like the Neopolitan Mastiff and the Koohikerhondje. If you like dogs or want to do some resaerch, this book has alot of good info.

It is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Visual Guide to Dogs, July 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Legacy of the Dog: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide to Over 200 Breeds (Paperback)
I can't agree more with the other reviewers. This is an excellent photo album of dogs. The text (translated from Japanese) is also excellent. (By the way, the American edition is much better published than the Japanese one, IMHO.) This is a must-have reference for all dog-lovers.

Most highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book that really does justice to the dogs., May 8, 1997
By A Customer
This is one of my favorite dog books, if only for the photographs. The strength of this book is in the pictures, not necessarily the text; there are others with more thorough information on the temperament and health needs of each breed, for instance. But the photography is superb. There are several high-quality color photos of each breed, both puppies and adults, all so clearly captured on film that you can practically feel their fur. A fun, visual browse that any dog-lover will enjoy
