Book Description

January 3, 2006
Earth's gravest hour had come. The dark forces of the Wrath, led by the incalculably evil and powerful Archessence, threatened to consume humanity forever. Banding together, Earth's most powerful warriors stopped the rampaging malignancy, but The Wrath's power was too great to be destroyed. Unable to defeat their foes permanently, Earth's heroes magically bequeathed their powers, sacrificing their lives in the process, so that future generations would always be ready to fight the Wrath. Now twins Joe and Vicky Dumar, aided by 8-year-old high-school genius Shiva, have manifested the Legacy and are struggling to accept the reality of their dual inheritance - the Legacy of their powers and their war against the Wrath.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE HEIR TO HEROES!, April 12, 2006
This review is from: Legacy: First Inheritance Color Manga, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Fred Perry's "Legacy" is another in the outstanding series of American Manga titles from Antarctic Press who are one of the best kept secrets in all of comics today. The story in legacy bounces from present day to the ancient past when a powerful dark force called the Wrath threatened all existence. Only the combined forces of the greatest heroes of the day led by the warrior Timeron and the wizard Master Shard managed to defeat the Wrath. Yet, though they defeated it, they were not able to destroy the Wrath. Thus they made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up their souls so that they may one day be called upon by future generations to merge with them to finally destroy the Wrath should it ever return.

In present day we meet twins Joe & Vicky. Joe is a self-styled martial arts master and video game master while his sister is a straight shooting, no nonsense leader. And we meet little Shiva, a nine year old girl who just happens to be the heir to the wizard legacy of Master Shard. Shiva takes Joe & Vicky back to those ancient times of battle as they witness the heroes battle the forces of the Wrath. Joe and Vicky learn that they are heir to the fighter legacy of Timeron and share his spirit. Tracy King is a video game groupie who has the hots for Joe who won't give her the time of day. But Tracy will prove very valuable as she is discovered to be the heir to the acrobat legacy.

But the Wrath has found an heir himself in nerdy Poindexter Neidimeier who has been twisted by the wrath into the evil incarnate Archessence. The group of four manage to get the upper hand on the evil forces but their victory is short lived as they are eventually overwhelmed. Where are the other heirs to the heroic powers of time past?

Fred Perry's Legacy isn't terribly original but it's so nicely done that one can overlook the ordinary plot. Shiva is the most fascinating character. It will be interesting to see how it was that this little girl came to house the spirit of Master Shard. The art is strong throughout and there's a liberal dose of humor as Joe finds he's actually become a better fighter by learning techniques from video games. Solid four stars.
