I'm loving this CD!
Although it has little elements of those classical composers it honors, it's definitely all Jazz!
The theme on Stravinsky is my favorite and it breaths fire with it's brassy horns roaring.

I love the piece by Anthony Wilson written for his dad called "Virgo". A bit Gil Evan's in arrangement but the Gerald Wilson Orchestra brings it to life and Anthony's guitar styling is delicately textured. It starts off slowly then builds into some cool grooves.

The song "September Sky" written by Gerald's grandson, Eric Otis, has a subtlety with it's delicate flute and then breaks into a lively jazz feel
before it returns to it's haunting melody.

Wilson's big piece, another suite of themes, this time on Chicago, brings many aspects of that great city to mind. I especially love the first 3 in the suite.
They are driven by swing and great horn arrangements showing GW at his best.

Thank you for the wonderful Lecacy you have given your fans.

Unfortunately (for me), I had never heard of Gerald Wilson before seeing an article about his new CD just a few months ago. If you like jazz, if you like that big band sound, then please TREAT YOURSELF to this amazing CD. This is no kiddie jazz. This is the music of a seasoned musician! I've worn it out and it's worn me out! I can't sit still when I listen to it. This man is 94 years old and writes and conducts music like this? I can't even find the pen I just had. So happy that I bought it!

Once again Greald Wilson proves that he is a Legend in the field of music. As with all of his past recordings, they are never a disapointment to ones' ears. I look forward to his next recording. Thank you Mr. Wilson!!

This is rally a good big band. I wish he would play more upbeat songs because this band could really handle it!
