The Legacy of Kilkenny,
By
This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
One of the most remarkable qualities about The Legacy of Kilkenny is that is told from the perspective of not one, but two character`s. From the very beginning that is what had me captivated. It added a different dynamic having two character's points of view and I found it extremely interesting getting to truly know not just one but two character's.The story is told from Abel and Pru's perception. Abel is your average high school guy. He is sweet, has a loving family, an erratic older sister, and doesn't really do anything too out of the ordinary. He is just living his life...a completely normal kid...unbeknownst to him, he is the `great wolf.' (Without going into too much detail...no spoilers in this review!) That is when Pru comes along. Pru is beautiful, of course. She is sexy. She is a werewolf. And she's not just any werewolf. She's the General's daughter, the pack leader's daughter, and the one who has been assigned to explain to Abel what his destiny entails. Pru is also the kind of girl that every girl would want to be friends with. She is fun, tough, edgy, spontaneous, venerable at times, and witty. I love Pru! Pru rocks! Along with Abel and Pru there are many other wonderful character's that keep you reading the Legacy. Oakley is a member of Pru's pack and a potential love interest for Pru. He's charming with a bit of a southern drawl. Oakley definitely was a favorite character of mine and kept a smile on my face. Arien is another favorite character of mine. Arien is a mischievous Vampire that is someone you may or may not love to hate. Most of my favorite lines from the book are from him. The Legacy of Kilkenny is an exhilarating read. Once you start, it sucks you in, it grabs your attention and you can't stop until you've read the last word. Just when you think you know what's about to happen, the plot thickens...it takes a hard left and you find yourself holding on for dear life buckled in the passenger seat of Pru's SS Camaro.

This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
The story starts as Abel is beginning his junior year of high school. He's you're average high school kid with the usual thoughts and feelings. Pru is a new student this year and she's hotter than THE hottest girl in the school. Everyone is talking about her, but somehow it seems she only has eyes for Abel. How did he get so lucky? He was chosen. He just doesn't know it yet.At this point I was thinking this is sounding like Twilight and it's gonna end up being all lovey-dovey, but, guys, while there are undertones and story lines dealing with romance in this book, it isn't melodramatic and it doesn't interfere with a great story. It turns out Pru is a werewolf with a gift for seeing visions of the future. She is convinced that Abel is the Great Wolf who will not just lead one pack but all the packs in the world. But Abel has never shifted into a werewolf and doesn't even realize he is one yet. And the elders in Pru's pack aren't convinced of her vision yet. Still, the Great Wolf in the hands of the wrong pack or even the wrong paranormal creatures could end up dead or brainwashed to do their bidding. So Pru is given the responsibility to tell Abel, train him and protect him until he makes his first shift and they know for sure. Throughout the story there are rival packs (from as far away as Ireland) and even a Vampire coven from New Orleans is interested and just may be blackmailing Abel with the threat of his sister being turned into one of them. The plot lines run in many directions, but they're never confusing and they all meet up in the end with a satisfying conclusion. Yet, Devyn's writing is clever enough to have left open paths to further stories. That's why I'm so excited to read Malevolence. From a guy's point of view the cover doesn't look very exciting, but having read the first one, I know that this is going to have much more than the prerequisite romance. It's going to have a kick-ass story, too. While I'm at it, I'd also like to mention Book 1.5, The Seduction, a clever spin off from TLOK detailing what happened to Abel's sister with the Vampires. (I know I'm being vague, I just don't want to give away anything for anyone who hasn't read the first book yet.) The book is in the form of a journal written by Abel's sister. I definitely recommend the entire series to girls and guys alike who enjoy paranormal, romance or just a good old page-turner.

I cannot wait for the next installment of The Legacy of Kilkenny series! I grew so attached to the characters. They are all very well developed, with obvious thought and care for each and every one. Poor Able Casey had no idea what he was in for the day Pru Phelan walked into his life! He is destined to be The Great Wolf and has trouble accepting all that comes with this huge responsibility, as it will affect all of those he cares about. Lucky for Abe he has people (or wolves) that believe in him and are with him every step of the way. I could go on and on about the things I loved in this book, but I'm not gonna spoil a thing for you! I'll tell you it is a MUST READ! ALSO CHECK OUT DEVYN DAWSON'S NOVELETTE! The Seduction- it will give you some insight to Able's sister Allie! LOVE LOVE LOVE DEVYN DAWSON!

An Interesting Book To Read,
By
This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
Abel Casey is just an ordinary boy. He goes to school and comes home to take care of his mother and sister while his father is at work. There's nothing out of the norm that would signal him to be more than what he already is. Yet when Prudence Phelan shows up on the scene, his entire world is thrown into limbo.Legend has it that a Great Wolf will some day be born to rule over all the wolf clans. A leader with extraordinary abilities. Abel has a hard time accepting such claims, even when presented with proof that he's the one Pru's clan has been waiting for. When Pru tells Abel that he must die in order to protect his family, he balks at the idea. He has no wish to cause his family any further heartache. When his sister starts exhibiting some weird behaviors, Abel realizes that he's way in over his head. Werewolves do exist, as do vampires. And apparently one has become fixated upon his sister in hopes of garnering the needed information that would lead him to destroy the Great Wolf. As his attraction for the lovely Pru grows with every day of training, he comes to realize that she's way out of his league. She's set her sights on Oakley and there's nothing that he can do to change her mind. Fighting against his feelings for her, he throws himself into his training while trying to figure out a way to save his sister and thus fulfilling the demands that have been thrown upon his shoulders - demands that could very well be his undoing should he take one wrong step. While this book has a very good premise and is quite promising, the one thing that kept me from truly enjoying its potential was the book's punctuation. Mind you, this isn't a bad review - far from it. I just think that if the editor had taken time to fully immerse him/herself in fixing the punctuation/sentence structures throughout the book, it would have made the book's message more clear and concise. Devyn has written a story that truly has potential. I do wish that she'd expanded just a little further on story of the Legacy of Kilkenny. To provide an even further and very much in-depth back story of how the clan truly came to be. I honestly liked what I read and I wish the author very well in her future endeavors.

A Must Read For YA Fiction Lovers Everywhere,

This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
First of all, let me say, I just finished this book 5 minutes ago and WOW! It was absolutely brilliant from the first word to the last and I am now eagerly anticipating the next book. I cannot wait to see what happens next. The Legacy of Kilkenny is a beautiful story of friendship, family, love and honour. Want to know what I mean? Well then read on. But I must warn you, I will not give you all the goods. You'll have to buy the book yourself for that. Abel Casey is an ordinary boy, with an ordinary family and an ordinary life. He goes to Piedsville High School and is best friends with Shane. He lives at home with his mom and dad. He also has an older sister Allie, who he calls Cat. Sounds pretty gosh darn ordinary so far. Am I right? I know I am. Then one day at school, Abel meets the stunning looking new girl, Prudence Phelan. No way would she be interested in him, she is far to hot for the likes of Abe. Right?! Abe and Pru become friends and she feels the time is right to share with him why she came to town - to reveal his destiny as the Great Wolf, he will become leader of all the Packs. How does Abe take the news that he is actually a werewolf? Well I will leave it to you to read that for yourself. Pru's main assignment right now is to take care of Abe, teach him, train him, have him hone his skills so that he can one day become the Great Wolf. But, she says, this comes at a price. Abe must die - or at least convince his family he has died. As Abe starts his training, he starts to have some of the ablities of the weres. He has a heightened sense of hearing for one, also his sense of smell is better than ever. But he hasn't shifted, and he is not totally convinced he will become the Great Wolf that they have been waiting for. He also doesn't want to convince his family he is dead. He knows it will break their hearts, and he doesn't want to be the one to do that to them. Will he be able to convince the Pack that he doesn't need to die and he can actually protect his family? Well, that I can't tell you. Life is going pretty well for Abe. He has some pretty awesome new friends, Pru's parents, General Phelan and Dolly, are also pretty cool. But Pru isn't interested in him in a boyfriend/girlfriend way. She has her eyes and her heart set on Oakley, who is tasked with watching out for her while she watches over Abe. Just when it seems that things are going well, enter Arien - the vampire. He latches on to Allie, and that is NOT a good thing. He is using her to get closer to the Pack to see if he can find any information on the whereabouts of the Great Wolf. Arien tells Abe and Pru that he will infect Allie with the HVV - Human Vampiric Virus- if they don't tell him who he is looking for. Will Arien infect Allie? Will she turn into a vampire? Will Abe finally shift? Will he find love? Who's to say what will happen?! All I can really say is, the characters in this book are some of my favourites in recent times. I realy love Abel and his easy going attitude to life. I love me some Oakley with his strong but sensual wolfish features. I like Pru because she is a level headed, sassy girl who will fight for what she thinks is right rather than let you walk all over her. Devyn Dawson is a great author. Her words had me entranced from the moment I started reading, and even now, they linger with me - making me wonder what will happen in the second book. I read a lot of YA fiction, and I find that sometimes, the theme of many books can be pretty samey. What is the point of reading yet another book about a vampire? Or yet another book about a werewolf? They might be questions that some people ask themselves, but not me. Personally, I like nothing more than diving into a new book head first. I love to meet new characters and enjoy different authors ways of portaying things, even if they can be similar. For me, the first thing I look for is cover art. I know the old saying about don't judge a book by it's cover, but for me, that just isn't true. I know you may say that I am maybe missing out on a great story that lurks within the walls of a more mediocre cover, and yes that may be true. But, I like my cover art. I offer no apologies for this. I think you will agree with me that the cover art for this book is something that makes you stop, look, read the blurb, and then buy it. That's exactly what I did. And I for one am glad that I did. The Legacy of Kilkenny goes straight on my Favourite Books pile. And Devyn Dawson, goes straight up there with my favourite authors. This book had me laughing, wanting to punch someone in the face, laughing some more, and crying - at least twice! So I say, go buy this book, curl up on the sofa with a hot cup of cocoa and settle in for an amazing journey that will stay with you even after the words on the page are over.

The Beginnings of a possibly great Wolf Pack Series,
By
This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
This book is the story of Abel Casey, an ordinary boy until the stunning Pru Phelan came to town and introduced him to his destiny. Pru has had a vision that the Great Wolf has been born and he can be found in Piedsville, Oklahoma and his name is Abel Casey. Pru's main assignment? To kill Abel... at least that is make his own family believe he is dead. The Great Wolf is expected to become the leader of all the packs.Abel starts training and he begins to have the abilities of a werewolf, but he hasn't shifted and he doesn't want his family to believe he is dead. Will Abel be able to convince the pack that he can protect his own family? Just when everything seems to be going okay, Abel's sister Allie meets a new guy named Arien. Arien isn't just any guy, Arien is a vampire and he knows the Phelan pack has found the Great Wolf. Arien wants to know who it is and he is threatening to turn Allie into a vampire if they don't tell him. Allie is already moody, will she contract the Human Vampiric Virus (HVV)? Abel wants a relationship with Pru, but Pru only has eyes for her bodyguard, Oakley. The story will have you cheering for the good guy.... hating the bad guy... dreaming of the sexy werewolves and loving to hate the vampire bad guy Arien. The multiple scenarios may be too much to bear for our newly unshifted werewolf Abel, can he save his sister? Will he find love? Will Pru be able to fulfill her assignment? Will Allie really end up becoming a vampire? Who will be brutally murdered? This book I feel had its own story yet it has also set the scene and introduced us to the characters of what could be a very promising series. At first I though the book was going to go somewhere along the line of being like Twilight however that didn't last long, I would compare this more to the Rachel Vincent Shifter series. This is more aimed at the YA market however is still very readable and enjoyable by adults in my opinion. I loved the characters, Dolly and Prudence who are both strong, no nonsense females who can stand up to the males in the pack. I initially had my suspicions and doubts about the character Parker and his role in events but warmed to him as a character as the book progressed. The book has Weres, Witches, Shamans and Vampires so for me the plotlines seem endless and the possibilities exciting! The cameraderie the pack has is well described and the whole love elements in the book of will Pru and Abel become an item? Will Pru and Oakley get together? etc keeps you guessing well into the book. the whole pack, imprintinng, rogue/stray wolves and mates for life themes have been done in books I have read before so where easy to follow and grasp. I did enjoy the dream walking, and shaman aspect which I hope will be explored further in forthcoming books, there has to be more books surely! The book ends in a way that "business has yet to be taken care of. There were many threads running through the book to keep track of and keep you interested such as the question of would able have to fake his death so that his family would have a safe future, in the end (and I think I can say this without revealing spoilers) the decision is taken out of his hands, and everyone else's that were planning it too. I will definitely be looking out for book 2 which I think maybe even better as in a way book 1 ended at the begining of journey on his new life path.

Fantastic Urban Fantasy! A Must Read!,

This review is from: The Legacy of Kilkenny (The Legacy Series) (Kindle Edition)
The Legacy of Kilkenny is a fantastic read. Devyn Dawson has created one amazing urban- fantasy world. The storyline is strong and fresh, with different werewolf packs, vampires, dream walkers, and seers--and that's just the tip of this awesome adventure. The characters are well-developed and full of personality. This is the first book I've read where the main boy and girl characters were not in love with each other, but it works. Dawson did beautifully with Pru already being in love with Oakley. I didn't dislike Pru for not returning Abel's feelings, and you will see why (no spoilers).Abel is a terrific guy. He's funny, sincerer, and so loveable. When Abel sees Pru, he knows trouble just walked into his English class. He's so right, Pru is on a mission to get Abel trained and ready for his destiny. Abel is to become The Great Wolf, and rule over all the werewolf packs. Not bad for a teenage boy who still has his mom take him to school lol. Pru is a beautiful werewolf princess. Her father is the alpha male, so Pru will become an alpha female. It's her mission to tell Abel he's the The Great Wolf that all the werewolves have been waiting for him to join the packs. Oakley is a gorgeous guy and werewolf. He's part of Pru's fathers pack, and also Pru's bodyguard. He helps Pru train Abel for his destiny. Pru and Oakley's romance is hot. Oakley is hot! :) He's one lean, mean, sexy werewolf, and I can't wait to see more of him in the next book. But I also want to see more of Parker. He's a rogue werewolf that's joined up with Pru's pack and he's the cool mysterious type. I'm definitely wanting to know what this gorgeous werewolf is all about. The hard part is I'm going to have to wait for the next book, but in Parker's case, it's well worth the wait. He's yummy ;) Now for Arien. He' the sexy bad boy vampire. I know I'm not supposed to love him, but I do, and Pru's having a hard time with this herself. Arien's so sexy and bad till he's mm mm-good. But he is the enemy. Dawson has built a magnificent urban-fantasy world and amazing characters in The Legacy Series. I highly recommend The Legacy of Kilkenny as a must read.

Lets just say this, It was a good book. I loved the plot and characters, especially Pru, Pru rocks. But, It was written like a 10 year old wrote it. Most of the dialoge was run on sentences and not enough commas. I mean no offense to all the 10 year olds reading this but it was kinda hard to read because of that. Coming from me, who reads a lot of books, that's saying something. Still loved it, one of my favorites! C=
