I've had it for two months now and it's still working just fine after being used a good amount. I do like the way it winds the hose as it retracts and even when it's out 80' or more it still has enough power to pull it in.
Over all it is still better than doing it by hand, but there are better quality products out there if you want to save some frustration.
After careful inspection, I figured out what the issue was! The hose guide that is meant to move back and forth in order to keep the hose evenly wound up was not moving! I used a flashlight and looked closely inside. Its being turned by a belt. I noticed the belt was not tight around the gear.
I ended up opening the whole unit up and removing the guide that winds the hose. The belt failed after a year since it became loose. This is the part that is designed to fail. Do you really want to change belts every year ? I don't know why it even warped to begin with? Maybe it was the garage heat.
After removing the part and winding up the tension again (btw the manual is wrong on this part) the hose works fine.
As for the tension: The manual states to wind it 4 times in order to regain factory tension. This was simply not the case! I wound mine about 20-25 times in order to get it right.
I give this item two stars because the hose is decent and has not failed.

This does a great job but looks a bit cheap when hung in my garage. Good long hose supplied with reel, a little tough to get all of hose back in if you pull it all out. Read morePublished on February 25, 2013 by treeforr
