I have been playing off and on for over 30 years. When I started out, a guitar of this quality was probably $400-$500 at least.

This is a China-made Strat knockoff of 3 piece alder. The grain is not matched perfectly, but at this price I'm not complaining. Finish itself is nicely done, and the body is smooth and well contoured like a strat should be.

Tuners are decent quality. Probably on par with a Squier. Toggle switch is solid, and well defined when switching between positions. Bridge saddles are pot metal. Bridge itself is a vintage tremelo with 2 spring system. In my opinion, that's the weak link in the hardware. 3 single coil pickups with plenty of twang on bridge. Neck pickup sounds surprisingly good. Not too muddy and good crunch when dirtied up. Knobs and pickguard are typical at this price point and are fine. Nut is plastic--again typical.

The neck is a nice fairly fast maple, with highly polished rosewood fretboard. Frets are medium jumbo, and very similar to a Squier. Frets were well finished and level. Playability was very good out of the box, and intonation and action required minimal setup. The neck is probably the best part of this guitar. It's excellent quality for the money.

Overall--GREAT beginner guitar, and better than many at twice the price. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality. I would not go so far as to say this is a $399 guitar, but it's certainly in the Squier neighborhood as far as quality.

The Legacy guitars are great, they are comparable to Fender's Squier at a fraction of the price! The guitar has a solid feel but does not make your back hurt after playing a while. The neck is smoothe and easy to play on (unlike most guitars that i have encontured at this price point). The tremolo bridge stays in tune well while playing with the whammy bar, which is great. The pickups do what theyre supposed to, give you that single coil blues rock sound. To wrap it up, the Legacy guitars are so worth the buy, wether youre new to guitars and need a great instrument to start out on, or youre a seasoned player and want a great, but cheap guitar to travle with; either way the Legacy guitars are fantastic!

I am shocked at the quality of this guitar. I was not expecting much, especially for the price, but this solid body holds excellent tune, has a great fretboard, and a really nice finish. I did not have to do anything to the unit. I use it mainly for Rocksmith, but I have used it for some light gigging. Excellent for the price.

I've been playing for almost 50 years, all styles, and have owned many great guitars. About 12 years ago I stopped playing due to rheumatoid arthritis, but have recently been able to pick it up again, so I ordered this Legacy "Strat". I could not be happier with the purchase.

When delivered, I was just blown away by the fit, finish, and sheer heft of this guitar. This is no cheap, lightweight balsawood imitation. The alderwood used on the body spells one thing, loud and clear, ... s-u-s-t-a-i-n. The pickups are surprisingly good too (though I am going to replace the bridge pickup with a humbucker, sacrilege, I know....), the tuners aren't bad, the switching solid, and the neck is, well, my favorite part of the guitar.

After it arrived, I immediately put on a set of Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Lights (.08 & up), checked the intonation (which was surprisingly spot on), and made some minor adjustments to the bridge (which, as another poster wrote, may be a weak spot on this beauty). I also spent an hour carefully (using a Dremel tool) smoothing the fret ends on both sides of the neck. They were a bit rough, on an otherwise silky neck. Once done, I'd put the neck up against any factory Fender. It feels like a great "Strat" neck should feel.

When called upon (and with the right switching, amp, and pedals), this guitar will sing, strut, chicken-pick, crunch, Jeff Beck smooth (with the acceptable tremolo bar), or "Stevie Ray scream". It's what one would expect from a $500+ factory Fender Strat, but certainly not from a $99 knockoff! ACK! Best buy I've ever made. Bottom line, this is no little kid's guitar. It's a heavyweight player (both in weight and sound), that will satisfy your every musical whim, and then some. Buy one, before they're all gone, or you'll be sorry.

This guitar is a little gem at the ORIGINAL $100 price. I have bought, fixed, upgraded and sold many guitars over the years and this one represents really good value for anyone looking for a starter guitar or a good base to begin an upgrade.

First of all, the components with the exception of the tremolo are pretty much the same dimension as the beloved Mexican strat. Tuners are a cheap version of adjustable Schallers with the earhole at 45 degrees, pickguard is 11-point standard footprint and rest of electronics are OK. Nut is a flat-bottom plastic, which can easily be upgraded. Wood finish is about what you would expect in a $100 guitar.

Many folks will be OK with the guitar out of the box, but it can be so much better for just a little more effort. The seller DOES provide much more of the information and tooling you need to set this instrument up to your liking than most domestic makes.

The workers who put these together in the factories overseas have probably never played a guitar, so some allowance and adjustments have to be expected, especially considering that you are paying just 10% of the price for a USA-made instrument. Mine was delivered with an untightened truss rod and tuning keys that were loose. As well, the sides of the frets were a little rough, probably due to expansion/contraction of the neck during shipment via ocean container. This is not uncommon even in more expensive domestic maple necks.

I spent about 30 minutes addressing these adjustments, put a fresh set of strings on and now have an axe that plays as well as any Mexican strat.

At the end of April 2013, after I bought a second one, pricing went up by about $40 per unit for a short while thus making me re-evaluate my review, but now that pricing is even more reasonable, I am even more enthusiastic about the product.

You gotta get this guitar !!!

First...go under the picture at the top and look at my pictures I sent. I was really excited to receive this and started taking pics. I take pride in the decisions I make and yea I hope for the best. Some of the reviews are sorta scary...but she came through perfect. I also ordered strings I favor and yea these made a difference. Not that the strings on it were bad. Stretched em out a little and re-tuned til stable. They sounded "good" but yea up scale strings feel so much better on my fingers. I have construction hands...relatively larger fingers than most I see play on YouTube. Wasn't sure how this guitar would do. Nice, playable just like my LP. No urethane on the back of the neck, nice an satiny feel to it. It is a real joy to play.

Everything that needed to be loose for shipping was, the neck was tight fitting and stable though. The sealed tuners are really NICE! once I adjusted all the small screws on the ends they felt snug and stable, I worried about that when I first started to tune up but now real smooth. Sited the neck...perfect. Slight in bow at 7th so some one took the time for that. Intonation good but all that changed when I put medium strings on. The tremolo was tight to the body, now floats nice after adjustments to the screws. And yea I just got it but what I was reading about tuning issues...they just didn't happen. I'm gentle on the tremolo but I know it will take awhile for the strings to break in.

Actually the pup's aren't that bad, good enough I'll stick with em while I investigate replacements. Another adjustment to consider before putting down these as weak. Height adjustments need to be accounted for at the bridge. Not too much, but raising the pups afterwards enhances the output so give this beauty the once over. The 5 position switch, volume, tone controls are very precise.

This purchase has shown me that some times price doesn't "always" reflect quality. This is not a "CHEAP" guitar...yes inexpensive but by no way cheap. The wood grain and finish are awesome. I have one other electric guitar which is a Les Paul to compare with and other that the pup's being Pro Buckers which significantly added to the cost and having different sound I wanted a Strat sound with single coils and the alder wood sound way different to the mahogany body of my Les Paul. This is my player for awhile and put her through the paces.

KUDOS to the "The Instrument Store", gotta give credit where its due, thanks for allowing those who other wise not able to afford a guitar that are made of great tone woods..Alder,rosewood and a great build. You allow incentive to want to play and learn with quality affordable instruments. Thank you Thank you...

Lotta hype with Brand names keeps Legacy available for the "smart" budget conscience. Future upgrades to consider would be the nut & saddles to Tusq both extremely easy to do, and a pick guard for contrast. Honestly the tuners appear rock solid so far but if not going for black Sperzel lok tuners. Dunno..down the line possible Lace Sensor-red,silver,blue pups that's way down on my list tho, honest these pups aren't that bad. Honestly you need a decent amp to work with...really.

OK- DONE. Choice is yours....

>>UP DATE<< I Up graded. I'll be short this review was way longer than I wanted...lol. Mighty Mite (MM405TS), Sperzel 6 in-line locking tuners(blk),Graphtec tusq nut (5010-00) in blk. UNBELIEVABLE !!!! $125 in upgrades, got it all at Amazon. Very easy to do all these mods. Take your time sanding the nut to fit it perfect. Direct replacement with the tuners, drilled 5/64 holes for alignment pins. Soldered 2 wires for the loaded pick guard. I got the sound and look I wanted and for $225. I added another pic of my guitar finished in photos at the top.

I figured I'd buy a cheap second guitar, so I found this one. One of the cheapest prices on Amazon. And I thought wow, what a great look this guitar has. I was also hoping that it played well. Well I've been playing it for a while and it still sounds pretty good, and I've had no technical issues what so ever. I would recommend to ANYONE. Keep up the good work! =)

Ordered this about two months ago. It was shipped quickly, and arrived packaged well. Just plainly an excellent guitar. It sounds beautiful, looks great and is just shocking quality for its price. As a beginner, I'm proud to be learning on this baby, and I recommend it to anyone doing the same- although I'm sure this guitar is as great for the experienced as it is for the newbies.
