Excellent overall guide,
This review is from: Legacy on Stone: Rock Art of the Colorado Plateau and Four Corners Region (Paperback)
This book takes a look at many of the different rock ar symbols and their possible meanings. While not a complete guide to all of the sites, I think it's an excellent companion to the Polly Schaafsma books. It's a little light on pictures, but overall, an excellent reference.

Great Book; Be Aware of Earlier Editions,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Legacy on Stone: Rock Art of the Colorado Plateau and Four Corners Region (Paperback)
I have been very involved in the study of rock art and in rock art protection. Writing from that perspective, I can say that the author of this book is highly respected and this is a very good book on the subject.
In ordering this book however, if you go through one of Amazon's independent distributors, be sure the book you receive has the latest revision. I ordered this book in this manner and was sent a copy of the book with an older copyright date than Amazon noted. In the past I had the earlier version and read it, and I was wanting the more current information. Unfortunately, I did not think to check the copyright date when I got the book from the Amazon distributor and I put the book aside for awhile and didn't notice the problem until a number of months after the purchase, so I let the matter drop. (This happened to me with two different books on rock art.) Be aware. |
