Steve Miller is a science fiction writer, editor, publisher, fan, librarian, and computer guy. A 1973 alumnus of Clarion West, he was Founding Curator of SF for the UMBC SF Research Collection, and has been active in science fiction fandom since the late 60s when a series of book reviews and articles for in Texas publications convinced people the Maryland resident was an Aggie. A longtime part of the SF community, Steve's work as a fan included pubbing his own zine, concom work on BaltiCon, Artkane, and other Eastern regional conventions, and acting as Vice Chair of the Baltimore in 80 WorldCon bid. Steve has attended well over two hundred conventions in the US as fan and pro including more than a dozen Guest of Honor appearances from coast to coast and many dozen panel appearances.

His first pro fiction sales were to Ted White at Amazing in the 1970s. More recently, he's co-author (with wife Sharon Lee) of the award-winning Liaden Universe(R) series as well as other novels and short stories. In the late 80's Steve started BPLAN Virtuals, an early ebook company known for Disk-Top Publishing; over the years his work has appeared in e-format through Embiid and Baen Webscriptions while Baen, Ace, Del Rey, and others have been the paper publishers.

Steve was also founder and publisher of SRM Publisher Ltd, a small press based in Maine, which produced dozens of genre and genre-related titles since 1995 and 2011. PinbeamBooks.com, an ebook publisher, takes up his nonwriting time these days.

The first story fills in the details of how Val Con and Shan found Jeeve. I always wanted the details and this tale more than fulfills that background. A must read for all Liaden fans. The second story is an interesting side note to the Korval family history. Well worth the price.

For new readers, this may not be the place to begin in the Liaden series (I recommend Agent of Change or Crystal Soldier). Having said that, the stories are enjoyable on their own and don't require prior information to enjoy. For those who are familiar with the series, they are just as fun and well done as all the others.
Intelligent Design: we get to see how Jeeves, the robot butler, enters the service of Clan Korval.

The Space at Tinsori Light: we introduced to a new character at an earlier time in Korval's history then the main bulk of the series. There is a package that must be delivered and a mysterious space station.

Intelligent Design , a great short story covering how the cousins , Val Con and Shan, while on a Trading voyage with Shan's father Er Thom yos'Galen when they are young teens, found and built Jeeves. The Space at Tinsori Light occurs farther back in the Liaden timeline, occurs at a space station like no other, and involves a Pilot of Korval, one Jen Sin yos'Phelium, and this "haunted" space station. Both are good reads, from the Liaden Universe.

This collection of stories in the Liaden Universe fills holes, fills out characters and provides backstory while being an easy introduction point to the Liaden Universe itself. Lee and Miller are on my always order in hardback and always preorder list. They have never written a book I didn't admire greatly. They seem to collaborate effortlessly and make it look incredibly easy-- it is not. There's lots of skill and professionalism under the hood. This is a great collection.

For any fan of The Liaden Universe this book contains two stories that fill in some background to the main series.
Intelligent Design introduces the yos'Galan AI butler Jeeves & how he came into the household.
The Space at Tinsori Light is from much earlier in Korval history & although interesting hasn't much relevance to the main series. Still a good read

a short Story about 2 main characters of the Liaden Universe;
when they are young and find Jeeves .in a box in a depot on a planet far from home and their mother has just lost her butler due to discrimination. so the boys reassemble Jeeves and send him to their mother .I have every line written about the Liden Universe so anytime I find some new story I am enchanted.

With good characterization, and interesting plot lines, Lee and Miller have written another hit. They keep writing, I keep reading - keep up the good works.
