OldTime music at its best! A mini-biography of Tommy Jarrell and how he aquired the tunes on this CD. A short story is told before each tune explaining the key of his fiddle and from where he learned the tune. The booklet tells about the tune as well. Highly recommended for the OldTime music player and/or historian!

Listening to Tommy Jarrell will take you back to the way real mountain musicians sounded while playing on their front porch. I've had the CD for 4 days and have almost wore it out. If you love ole time mountain music, BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Old Time Fiddle Master, August 1, 2006
This review is from: The Legacy Of Tommy Jarrell, Vol. 1: Sail Away Ladies (Audio CD)
Tommy Jarrell has been a source of inspiration for old time fiddlers for generations. These CD collections demonstrate why his heartfelt dedication to his music is so infectuous. These tunes are classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tommy Jarrell The Rock of Ages, June 24, 2010

This review is from: The Legacy Of Tommy Jarrell, Vol. 1: Sail Away Ladies (Audio CD)
Tommy Jarrell learned out to play the fiddle from his father, uncle and former Confederate soliders early in last century. He grew up in an area where moonshiners were common due to the poor quality of the soil in the region. He never recorded any music until her retired from the N.C. highway department at age 66. This CD has music that is seldom heard and played in a way meant provide some instruction to other musicians. I enjoy hearing him talk about the song he is about to play and how he learned to play it. The music on this CD stands out for the authenticity derived from a man spending a lifetime playing it.

The Legacy Of Tommy Jarrell, Vol. 1: Sail Away Ladies

As a intermediate old-time fiddler, I am really appreciating all the great tunes on this album. Tommy's playing is second to none and now I understand why so many people here in Nashville recommended this CD to me.
