Book Description

March 21, 1995
"If laws could speak for themselves they would complain of the lawyers." —Sir George Savile
  • Did you know that—
    • It's unlawful to doze off under a hairdryer in Florida?
    • Cats are not allowed on a bus in Seattle if a dog is already on board?
  • Would you like to know—
    • How many lawyers are there? How much do they earn?
    • Where are you most likely to be sued?
    • What do double jeopardy, hearsay, and pro bono mean?
  • Who said—
    • "If you laid all our laws end to end, there would be no end."
    • "Laws are like sausages. It's better not to see them being made."
For lawyers, law students, and anyone else who can't escape the long arm of the law, this entertaining volume includes hundreds of intriguing facts and anecdotes about a profession we all love to hate. Organized by topic, here are scores of brief entries, informative lists, witty quotations, and fascinating sidebars on every aspect of jurisprudence. From malpractice to Miranda, acquittal to voir dire, Legal Briefs is sure to amuse, instruct, and perhaps even alarm you about the state of the legal profession today.

This book is like the Guiness book of World Records. Easy reading and interesting while still being very funny. You can read it five minutes or 50 minutes at a time..... If you know what I mean?? :)

5.0 out of 5 stars it should be against the law, December 1, 2003
This review is from: Legal Briefs (Paperback)
I teach a high school government class. It is hard to get the students interested in the different aspects of our government. However, when I get "legal briefs" out, I have their complete attention. As a trivia geek I really love this book. It is a must.
