This is NOT a comprehensive guide. If anything, it is a good outline of the issues you will come across. But do not consider this your single source for answers to the countless questions that will come up in setting up and running your small business.

Excellent Guide for Starting Out in Small Business,
By Charlene Rubush "author and book lover" (Donalsonville, Georgia) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

I found this book to be a very useful guide to answer my questions as I expand my horizons in the business world. Chapter 1 provides a lot of good information on the various legal forms available such as:
1) Sole proprietorships 2) Partnerships 3) Corporations 4) Limited Liability Companies 5) Choosing Between a Corporation and an LLC 6) Special Structures for Special Situations Each of these forms are explored in depth, to help you decide which form is right for you, and your situation. The book is simply and clearly laid out, with samples of business forms, textboxes, and easy to read fonts. You'll find great info on many subjects such as naming your business, registering your trademark, funding your business, licensing and permits, tax basics, buying and insuring a business, protecting your assets, and much more. Contracts, obtaining credit, legalities, deducting business expenses, dealing with employees and independent contractors, etc. are covered. The book also has an extensive index for easy reference. I'm a big fan of the NOLO books, and this book lived up to my expectations. A great fount of info for those who are just starting out, and helpful to those already in business. Written by a practicing attorney, it's a real nice, reader-friendly, up-to-date resource. Highly recommended.

I had some pretty high expectations for this book and it came nowhere near delivering. There are a lot of better books on the market that explain how to start a business.
