Product Description

48" Straight Desk with re-configurable shelving in espresso finish

A fresh take on modular furniture, Legaré offers stylish curvilinear designs crafted of materials that assemble and rearrange with unparalleled ease. In just three minutes or less with no tools, screws, or bolts needed, individual components lock snugly together to become sturdy, stable office and home pieces that will provide many years of high-quality service. Legaré's Select line is made of engineered composite wood with solid-wood surface veneers. Engineered wood, manmade from small wood pieces and adhesives, has several environmental advantages: large panels of wood can be made from small-diameter trees; the use of wood scraps and wood with defects reduces waste; and engineered products are often stronger and less prone to warping from humidity than solid timber. Plus, all the wood Legaré uses is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

This 48-inch straight desk makes a hip modern office statement either alone or attached to a larger Legaré configuration with peninsulas, bridges, or extensions on either side. The desk comes with two 18-inch shelves and the asymmetric reversible design allows them to be placed on either the left or right side in three different slots (spaced 6-3/8 inches apart). Conveniently placed cutouts provide concealed cable management, and a low back riser can hold an accessory shelf or hutch. Available in an ash veneer with an Espresso finish and an oak veneer with a Wheat finish, the desk requires only two minutes to assemble and a few seconds to disassemble. All Legaré furniture is backed by a three-year warranty. --Kara Karll

I bought this desk with a Legaré 17" Accessory CPU Shelf in wheat finish oak veneer and a Legare Letter-Size File Cart, Wheat. (You should read those reviews before also deciding to buy them.) This is a great desk. It looks to be made out of high-density fiberboard. It is very sturdy and strong and has a nice surface veneer. Setup was easy. Took a little care and balance, but it was easy. More importantly, about 20 minutes after I put the desk together I changed my mind and decided to reconfigure the shelves. THAT was easy. Pop pieces off, move them, pop them back on. (It get easier the more you do it.) For me, that was the warm fuzzy moment. Compared to my other IKEA furniture -- which is my benchmark for simple, streamlined, easy to assemble furniture -- this desk is above and beyond. When I wanted to take it apart and change it, it really shined. I bought this desk with the hopes of (1) obtaining a quality and long lasting desk that was (2) really easy to reconfigure and move from place to place. I got it. If you have similar needs or are just looking for a simple, nice looking desk, I would highly recommend it. I don't shop desks often, but I suspect the quality is high for it's price (through

I had an unfortunate shipping experience with my desk. UPS did not handle the package well, and it arrived slightly damaged. I told that day through online feedback, and I immediately got a very kind, concerned, respectful response offering to replace the desk free of charge, or, if not, then to grant me a generous refund.

I just received this desk in the mail (from a different distributor), but felt the need to review it here, since lots of people read Amazon reviews.

This desk (I own the 48 inch espresso version) is great. It really does assemble quickly (though maybe not quite 3 minutes), and it seems very sturdy. I will have no problems whatsoever taking this thing apart (which probably takes less than a minute), moving it and setting it up again. great for students, or people who anticipate moving quite a bit.
It also seems very sturdy, and I am confident that it will hold up for several years of heavy use.

One thing that may be an issue is shipping. Mine came packaged in the original Legare packaging (which I assume this does too), and the desk was not damaged at all by the shipping. However, the styrofoam protecting the pieces somehow disintegrated during shipping. When I opened the box I had pieces and flakes of styrofoam EVERYWHERE. I had to vacuum the individual pieces of wood, the floor, the walls, the hallway, myself. So if possible, you may want to open this box outside.

Also, you can get this desk (and all other versions of Legare desks) on ebay with Buy it now, where I got it, for quite a bit cheaper.

I got a shelf from Legare that sits on top of the back of the desk, and it is very solid, and can hold all the stuff that usually clutters up my desk.

Overall, great product. one star off for the messy packaging.

This is a fantastic desk. I bought it for my 8-year-old son, and it is perfect - lots of room for him to work, sturdy, and with rounded corners so I'm not worried about his crashing into it. I bought it with the hutch, whose shelves are a bit too close together but otherwise offer plenty of storage space. I really like that the hutch includes a strap to fasten it to the wall for added stability, because it does seem a bit wobbly just sitting on top of the desk.

It looks fabulous - everyone else in the family is jealous! My son wanted the expresso color, but I liked a lot of the other possibilities too. The one minor disadvantage is that it doesn't have any drawers - only a problem if you want them for some reason.

It was completely easy to set up, and the configuration can be changed to suit the room - and if you don't like it, you can very easily try it a different way.

Because of the reviews that complained about the packaging, I opened mine outside - but in fact, the styrofoam was about the same as any other packaging I've had, and didn't make a mess at all. It broke rather easily, but I was being extra careful because of those reviews, so I didn't have a problem.

Color: Espresso
The finish is nice. The box was dirty and all beat up. Thank goodness the packing tape held up and no pieces were damaged!

The assembly was pretty easy but it is NOT 48 inches wide. The desk top is only 46 inches wide. You normally expect the desktop measurements to be 1/2 to 1 inch less of the total width due to finishing, so the 1.75 inch difference probably is a lot compared to other desks. (The back panel that supports the desk structure along it's width is a hare short of 47.5 inches at its farthest curved edge, not 48x27x32 inches.)

Nevertheless, it's a nice desk. It's just not the same size as advertised. That may or not be a consideration, depending on your floorspace or what you were planning to put on the desk top.

To be fair it offers slightly more depth than wider desks, approx 24 inches deep, front to back. After hour upon hour of comparative shopping, this desk offered more than the meager average 20-22 inches deep of workspace. Almost a third of that is lost to the monitor footprint. God forbid you put a hutch on them!

You're not likely to be as disappointed at the incorrect dimensions as you are impressed how nice the desk looks and the fair amount of room you'll have to do your work.

A sound purchase.
