1.0 out of 5 stars The only deck I ever burned
I hated this deck. It is extremely misogynistic. Usually if I just didn't like a deck I would give it away in hopes that it would speak to someone else but this is a deck that I truly felt like I would be passing on ill will if I gave it to anyone. The colors are faded and the artwork is not very detailed but that is not enough to hate it. What bothered me the most is all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Dramtic, Inspiring!, August 5, 1998
This review is from: Legend: The Arthurian Tarot Cards and Book (Cards)
I have been reading Tarot for 19 years. During those years I have used many decks but all achieve the same result - divination, suggestions for bettering our lives, defining our goals and ultimately defining our place in this cosmos. I have been using the Robin Wood Deck (also found at Amazon.com). This deck really is perfect for me but I wanted more of a challenge in interpreting the Minor Arcana. I studied the Arthurian cards and found a "je ne sais quoi" when I tried to read them. Something called to me from the depths of the depictions on the cards, it was an almost physical sensation that drew me to them.

The cards are studded with legend regarding Arthur, his knights and their battles. I switched to this deck recently and am currently studying them in depth. New readers will be overcome by their beauty, practiced readers will find not only charm but symbolism that will spark new and creative thoughts for them.

The book "Keeper of the Wor! ds" is not only a book which meticulously explains the symbolism of each card but a story book as well. I would bring the book to bed with me at night; and then, curled in my nice big bed I would read about the deeds, dreams, visions and ultimately the everlasting legend that this time period brings to us.

I can honestly recommend this book to everyone. Enjoy and be prepared to be fascinated!

I bought this deck as my first, when I was 14. Eight years and seven decks later, I still hold it close to my heart. The cards have so much emotion and symbolism in them, you can't help but get an idea of what each card means. The watercolors are amazing, in my opinion. Some people didn't like the skin color, I guess it depends on preference. The deck also comes with the most gorgeous layout sheet I've seen thus far. Purple sheet with a great tree and sleeping dragons, symbolic of Pendragon. The book is really awesome in that each card is fully described and comes with a pertaining Arthurian story. Ferguson takes information from all of the sources on Arthurian legend to give you a clearer and unbiased view of who these characters were. For those who have a zest for Arthurian legend, definitely go for this deck. If you love Mists of Avalon, you'll love this. Only thing that bugs me is that the cards chip pretty fast. Then again, cards chip fast with me in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best decks I've used, April 11, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Legend: The Arthurian Tarot Cards and Book (Cards)
I have been reading Tarot for two years now, beginning with the standard Rider-Waite deck...over the years I have collected many tarot decks in a search to find the deck I worked best with...Legend is it.

The artwork is exquisite, beautifully detailed watercolors that immediately capture the attention of the viewer.

To help the inexperienced reader, the book "Keeper of Words" is included in the deck, a well written, thoroughly researched guide to reading Legend. In addition to black and white reproductions of each card accompanying a explanation of its meaning, there is also a short history of each character depicted on the cards.

I liked the way each card was dedicated to a different and fitting character in the Legend of King Arthur. I found the deck easy to work with and pleasant to look at. I even like just taking out the guide and reading it. The book explains everything so well and it's also very informative as to Arthurian History. I gave the deck a 10.

I bought this set because the art work intrigued me. I certainly must say the art is beautiful. However, I am just a beginner, learning Tarot and find this deck is way beyond my level. I've enjoyed looking at the cards and the book and decided to put it aside until I am more advanced. I'd highly recommend this book, but not as a learning tool.

If you're interested in starting out in tarot, this is a great set to get you underway. I had bought a few decks in the past, but could never really get started reading with them. Most just didn't call out to me. Then I bought this deck, and haven't looked back since. The artwork on the cards is expressive and gorgeous. Plus, besides the interpretation of each card, you are treated to a brief rendition of the myth associated with that card. I found this to be an exceptional aid in my initial work with the cards.

If you're someone who can't quite tune in with the symbolism of Rider-Waite decks, this is a great buy. If you're also captivated by the Arthurian legends and middle ages, then this is A MUST HAVE!

The art on the deck is extremely beautiful. It captured the essence of the meanings on the cards. When I first looked through my deck I get all sorts of vivid feelings going down my spine, some on them made me shiver, some I just couldn't take my eyes off. The book "Keeper of Words" which comes with the set (so, don't buy the book as the feature combo says, or else you'll get a double) is a good explainer in the way that it talks about every aspect of the card - its meaning, the story behind the picture on the card and have it relate back to its meaning, lots of background info. A great set.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 1st Deck and it is perfect for me., May 21, 2004

This review is from: Legend: The Arthurian Tarot Cards and Book (Cards)
I have to start by saying this is my first attempt at learning the Tarot and I have had 100% success so far. From a young age I felt connected emotionally with the legends of King Arthur and have read and studied the legends for a decade. When I saw there was a Tarot deck dedicated to the legends I had to own it whether it was helpful as a tool or not.

But as I have learned the cards speak to me and often I am able to read them accurately without the help of the book, just by looking at the symbolism in the cards and with my knowledge of the legends.

I have given about 10 readings, all of which (that have met their resolution) have so-far been proven accurate. I do not feel that I am a great reader..but the cards really seem to bring it out in me. Picking a deck I feel is a very personal thing and not all decks will work for everyone. You definitely get out of it what you put into it and this deck really works for me.

I not only read cards but am an artist as well. These cards are superb in their details and are utterly gorgeous. They are very easy and fun to use and their book is extremely helpful. Can be used as a starter deck...

4.0 out of 5 stars Legend: The Arthurian Tarot, December 27, 1999

This Book gives an amazing insight to the lay reader. Tarot is often a difficult thing to come to terms with, however with the insight that a knowledge of Arthurian Legend and these cards allow, will take your readings a step further than most readings go. Originally drawn to these cards by the artwork and being an avid reader of Merlin and the many facets of Arthurian Legend; as such they allow me to lay out a story that leads the client through their own parallel story.

Though the cards deviate slightly from the norm, they do allow a more vivid explanation and the book is very detailed, allowing a new reader the opportunity to learn as he or she goes. I recommend these cards to everyone, but I also say that you should find the cards that speak to you. Each reader is different and therefore so are their decks. even the plainest of decks in the right hands can give a remarkable and powerful reading. These cards, seem to have taken on my own dry sarcasm, as such if you ask the wrong question or a general question you get a very sarcastic answer, a strange but often humorous reminder that a reading is more than just a set of cards on the table, it is a story about the clients' life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to relate to and learn from., November 16, 1999

This review is from: Legend: The Arthurian Tarot Cards and Book (Cards)
I got the cards originally for their beautiful artwork, and because I was interested in the Arthurian Legend. I found, though, that my knowledge of the legend made the tarot experience more valuable and insightful. I think you should get cards which you relate to personally, so if you're interested in the Arthurian Legend, I highly recommend these cards.
