This is the most beautiful story I've ever read. Whether it's Christmas time or the fourth of July, I love reading this book with my younger relatives. It tells the story of the candy cane with so much emphasis on Jesus. Christmas has become very materialistic to children, but books like this put things in perspective. It takes an ordinary candy and makes it a symbol for Jesus- his death and his purity. This is my all time favorite childrens book.

There is excitement in the air! A new store will be opening! The anticipation is almost too much for young Lucy. Everyone thinks they know what type of store it will be. Lucy is a very curious girl. She has been watching the store be created by its new owner. She is very excited when she gets asked if she would like to help him.

John Sonnemann is a candy man. He has decided to open his candy store on a very special night, Christmas Eve. John does more than just sell candy; he explains the story of why candy canes are being made as a symbol of Christmas. They have a definite reason why a cane is shaped like a J.

With very beautiful pictures in, this sweet and heartwarming story unfolds in "The Legend of the Candy Cane." Every candy cane you see during the season of Christmas should remind you of Jesus Christ's reason for coming to Earth. Remember Jesus when it comes to Christmas, He truly is the reason for the season.

I have four children eight and under and have been collecting hardcover Christmas books for the past ten years since my husband and I got married. We purchase two to three new books a year and specifically look for books that have wonderful meanings and beautiful illustrations. This book does not disappoint. I have read it to my kids every Christmas for the past six years, and while I know the story, it still makes my cry every year while I read it. It's beautiful and my children all love it. This would be a wonderful addition to any Christmas library for children and adults alike. One of the best messages of Christmas.

If you're looking for an Inspirational story that tells the true meaning of Christmas, this is great choice. The "Legend" line sometimes feels contrived to me, but this is one of the better books in the series.

We have had the board book version of this book for a long time. I shared it with my children (who are now six) two years ago. They enjoyed the book and I enjoyed the story behind the Christmas tradition. We wanted the larger version since our board book has long since been broken. I especially love the illustrations in the book. They are so real and life-like. It is a great way to share a Christmas story from a Christian perspective.

The Legend of the Candy Cane

This was a great book for children or adults. It helps to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas! I loved the story, and my toddler loved the pictures. I highly recommend this (and already got a copy for my sister and had a friend read it, too).

Several years ago, my husband and I chose to give our children each a book at Christmas that they might pass down. The Legend of the Candy Cane tops our list of books in this collection thus far. This story is loved by all of us in the family and certainly knows no season. The lessons provided in this book are invaluable (provided you are looking to for a way to recapture Christ with Christmas). The illustartions keep the attention easily of my 2 year old and the text is loved by my 4 year old. Put this book on your wish list--- it's a keeper.

My girls loved this book and they loved the meaning of the book. This book is great for passing down from generation to generation. We really enjoyed the book.

This book is filled with attempts to create religious symbolism where there simply isn't any. I personally find it inappropriate and irresponsible (among other things) to teach a child that the red in a candy represents the blood of Christ. First (and most importantly), it just plain isn't true. Second, it introduces difficult theological issues that the age range for this book is not ready to understand. Last, "the blood that Jesus shed for us" has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas (it is, however, part of the Easter story).

This "history" has no base in reality. It is an urban myth that has been perpetuated by the internet. By publishing the story, it is given momentum once again to be believed by unsuspecting people and, more importantly, by innocent children. This story is not the truth - it isn't even an accepted traditional story - and it should not be represented as such.

There are so many wonderful stories, histories and projects children can study about Christmas without trying to manipulate or misrepresent the tenements of Christian faith. In addition, there is a traditional (and much more likely) story of the candy cane that parents can tell. But, this particular story in no way furthers the understanding of Christianity and, to be honest, I'd be embarrassed if people thought as a Christian I believed it.

My daughter and I enjoy reading this warm, tender story of the true meaning of Christmas. It gives a whole new perspective of the pepermint candy we so love to eat. In addition the illustrations are beautifully done, allowing a child to use their imagination.
