Book Description

Science Fiction Fantasy

Book 1 in the Destiny's Kingdom series

The planet Bethel seems perfectly peaceful, so why is Quade Decairus having nightmares about its destruction? In the first spellbinding book in the Destiny’s Kingdom series, Quade wrestles with his destiny to combat evil and save his galaxy.

Legend of the chosen

As the kingdom plans for the annual celebration of Twilight Bloom, Quade and his beloved Trina go about their usual preparations for a night filled with fun, feasting and joy. But Quade knows something that Trina doesn’t: emissaries of the gods have visited him, bringing grave tidings. An ancient entity has breached the Bethel galaxy and will systematically destroy it unless the chosen, spoken among his people as a fairy tale legend, come together to intervene. Even worse, the burden of fulfilling this deed sits squarely on Quade’s shoulders.

These warnings were easy enough to ignore until mysterious things start to happen. Clea, Trina’s best friend and law-breaking smuggler, seems to have secret, untold information about the legendary chosen, which she is unwilling to disclose. Instead, as Quade’s world privately unravels around him, Clea chooses to pursue her own path, and disappears on the eve of Twilight Bloom. Finally, Trina’s father, the Keystone of Bethel and most influential figure in the galaxy, starts behaving like a man possessed. As it becomes clear that Quade cannot protect those closest to him by himself, he must seek the help of others: the Avè, a powerful, wise magic user; the emissaries, whose warnings and advice Quade had originally shunned; but most of all, Quade must find the strength and resolve within himself to seek out the chosen, realize his own destiny, and to do whatever it takes to save his world and the people that he loves.

In the beginning the gods created evil

Left alone it grew vengeful

Angry, it sought to destroy all of existence

The Bethel galaxy is all that remains.

4.0 out of 5 stars New taste in Sci-Fi February 10, 2013
By Z
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found Destiny's Kingdom during an e-book sale, and expected some fun run of the mill adventure. Instead I got that rare modern sci-fi epic that didn't just put new twists on old tropes, it actually told a new story. One where I didn't know what was going to happen next, and I actually had to pay attention.

Great time, looking forward to the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first effort September 29, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a great book for anyone that enjoys the science fiction or fantasy genres. There is a great amount of individual character development, so as the story goes along you really get a feel for the individuals involved. I dislike nothing more in a book than when I don't know who's talking and all the characters seem the same. No problem like that here at all! There is also a great build and increasing suspense as the story develops drawing you more and more into the plot. This interesting mix of Fantasy and Science Fiction, as it cannot truly just be called one or the other, is very fresh for this reason. The book builds to a great peak, but never submitting to gratuitous violence or foul language for shock purposes. It doesn't need it and the story is all the more better for it. I finished the first book very quickly, and while not initially knowing it was only "Part 1" I remember exactly where things left off and am in great anticipation of the second book. I hope, yet I don't hope that book 2 draws to a conclusion. I love a great story to resolve, but at the same right, when you enjoy something this much, you also don't want it to end!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Techno-Mage fantasy May 3, 2013

Legend of the Chosen by Jennifer Selzer & Daniel Huber

When I saw the covers on these I almost passed them up. Between the title and the cover for some reason I had the impression this was another christian remake of the bible. Not that I don't appreciate those- they just are not tops on my list.

When I realized it was the beginning of a new Mage/Science-Fiction series I picked it up. I'm mostly acquainted with Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald in the realm of MageWorld. I enjoyed those though they often seemed more into romance so maybe Mage-Romance.

I don't mind the blend of science and magic. I really enjoyed this fantastic universe of Magic and technology.

This series seems to want to throw in some sort of myth that blends into a god created universe, which of course can never be told without the great dark evil. This dark evil seems to be more like a wild voracious energy being that feeds upon the living energy of other creatures. It also seems to be able to feed on most everything else, but apparently feeding on souls seems to be it's highest sustenance.

So we never really get to know why god created the great dark evil in the beginning but he did and there are four of them that seem to roam the universe.

There are legends, which are prophecy in this universe, that there are three chosen who can defeat this evil.

In this universe through some -perhaps other creation of god- there are black holes (I may have this confused) that have been tweaked to make nexus points which give access to the leylines that connect the universe.

Our hero, Quade, is about to discover that there have been strange things happening near the nexus points.

I love science fiction and came across this book under the 'newly released' category. Legend of the Chosen was really an easy read and it went fast for me. Once I started reading it I didn't want to stop. The story was exciting and had lots of detail, which is really important to me (because my imagination could never think up such wonderful characters or adventures). I was happy that I downloaded the portable version to read on my iPad (I love apple!). I'm looking forward to the 2nd book to come out and will definitely purchase it also. Thank you for the exciting and wondrous journey.

I have to say that I am so happy that ebooks were invented. They definitely give me the flexibility to bring my favorite books with me anywhere, to read on the go.

I can't believe it ended where it did. It feels as if only half the book. Now I have to get the next book in order to finish the story.

This is a slow paced story. The majority of the book is a set up for the last few chapters.

It's an okay story and a good concept. The issue I have is when you boil it down, very little happens over the course of the book. Read more

I hate it when the book ends with a cliffhanger. No real ending, just forced to buy another book if you want to read how it ends.
