In an era when rulers controlled the masses with oppression and fear, one young woman would stand against the tyranny and inspire a nation. The Legend of Chun Hyang is one of Korea's most enduring folktales, and now you can read about her adventures as they've never been seen before--as manga! When CLAMP (Chobits and Cardcaptor Sakura) puts their unique spin on the legend, anything can happen. Filled with martial-arts action, romance and adventure, The Legend of Chun Hyang is a gem from Japan's premier creative team.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Fantasy adventure set against an historical-fiction backdrop, taken from an ancient Korean legend. Appeals to fans of CLAMP, with artwork reminiscent of "Shirahime-syo."

More About the Author

Clamp, stylized as CLAMP, is an all-female Japanese manga artist group that formed in the mid 1980s. Many of the group's manga series are often adapted into anime after release. It consists of their leader Nanase Ohkawa, who provides much of the storyline and screenplay for all their works and adaptations of those works respectively, and three artists whose roles shift for each series: Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi. Almost 100 million Clamp tankōbon copies have been sold worldwide as of October 2007.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice read, August 20, 2004

This review is from: The Legend of Chun Hyang (Paperback)
The Legend of Chun Hyang is a nice read at only one volume, but may not be exactly what the reader expects. To begin with, this book is by Clamp, so of course the artwook is very beautiful and clean throughout the entire volume. One who enjoys detailed artwork could buy this book and be satisfied just with that. But the story is a little different than advertised. This book does not exactly tell the full legend of chun-hyang. A brief history of the real legend is given in the beginning of the book, but the actual stories don't really tell the story. It's sort of like Clamp's other works, such as Clamp School Detectives. Each chapter tells a little story about the characters' adventures but there isn't really a strong main plot line. For this reason, I gave the book 4 stars. The book has 3 chapters, the first of which seems to begin to tell the legend, but...the other two don't really follow up on it. Other than that problem, the book was really very good. There's adventure and fight scenes, sad situations, and a little bit of romantic comedy. If you're looking for a nice little adventure to enjoy with beautiful artwook, then this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too epic for a single volume, September 30, 2006
This review is from: The Legend of Chun Hyang (Paperback)
I've tended to enjoy all things CLAMP, and so after coming across Chun Hyang in "Tsubasa: Chronicles" and reading that she had her own manga volume, I decided to give it a go.

The artwork, as always, is beautiful, and the story, while having nothing to do with the Legend of Chun Hyang that is referenced at the beginning of each chapter, is engrossing and high-action, albeit overly similar to Chun Hyang's story in "Tsubasa" (though seeing as "Legend of Chun Hyang" came out earlier, I suppose I should really say that the "Tsubasa" story is the copycat). The problem is that, when I reached the end, I felt very much left hanging. The story's end is far too abrupt for a single-volume manga, and there wasn't enough time to see certain characters develop or to delve deeply into their personalities.

Again, I still enjoyed it, and this would not be a problem for a multi-volume manga; however, it left me a little too disappointed to give this one five stars.

The art is just beautiful. The style is much like clamps rayearth. Such a cute story. They really should have turned this into a multi volume series. This one book just seems.. I dunno I wanted more. But don't let that take away from it . Its a great manga. Loved it.
