A nice read,
By
This review is from: The Legend of Chun Hyang (Paperback)
The Legend of Chun Hyang is a nice read at only one volume, but may not be exactly what the reader expects. To begin with, this book is by Clamp, so of course the artwook is very beautiful and clean throughout the entire volume. One who enjoys detailed artwork could buy this book and be satisfied just with that. But the story is a little different than advertised. This book does not exactly tell the full legend of chun-hyang. A brief history of the real legend is given in the beginning of the book, but the actual stories don't really tell the story. It's sort of like Clamp's other works, such as Clamp School Detectives. Each chapter tells a little story about the characters' adventures but there isn't really a strong main plot line. For this reason, I gave the book 4 stars. The book has 3 chapters, the first of which seems to begin to tell the legend, but...the other two don't really follow up on it. Other than that problem, the book was really very good. There's adventure and fight scenes, sad situations, and a little bit of romantic comedy. If you're looking for a nice little adventure to enjoy with beautiful artwook, then this book is for you.

Too epic for a single volume,
This review is from: The Legend of Chun Hyang (Paperback)
I've tended to enjoy all things CLAMP, and so after coming across Chun Hyang in "Tsubasa: Chronicles" and reading that she had her own manga volume, I decided to give it a go.The artwork, as always, is beautiful, and the story, while having nothing to do with the Legend of Chun Hyang that is referenced at the beginning of each chapter, is engrossing and high-action, albeit overly similar to Chun Hyang's story in "Tsubasa" (though seeing as "Legend of Chun Hyang" came out earlier, I suppose I should really say that the "Tsubasa" story is the copycat). The problem is that, when I reached the end, I felt very much left hanging. The story's end is far too abrupt for a single-volume manga, and there wasn't enough time to see certain characters develop or to delve deeply into their personalities. Again, I still enjoyed it, and this would not be a problem for a multi-volume manga; however, it left me a little too disappointed to give this one five stars.

The art is just beautiful. The style is much like clamps rayearth. Such a cute story. They really should have turned this into a multi volume series. This one book just seems.. I dunno I wanted more. But don't let that take away from it . Its a great manga. Loved it.

The first time I read a comic by CLAMP, I was immediately captivated by all the pretty artwork- all the expressive faces and beautiful background work. Most of all, the artists' attention to detail is extraordinary. Their creation of storyline and characters (personalities and histories) are usually most satisfactory, also. In this particular title, you really get one of (in my opinion) their best short works, neatly bound into one compact but oh-so-rich paperback. I've loved this story since I first read it and am so satisfied and glad to finally have a copy of my own. No regrets at all!

I bought this because I really loved Chu'nyan in Tsubasa and wanted to see where her own manga took her.Its based on a Korean folktale and in my opion the book ends, too soon. There are only three stories in it. 1.) Pretty much the same one from Tsubasa where the rulers of the land are misusing their powers and Chun Hyang's mother dies defying them. She then meets Am-hang-osa (kinda like the secret police) who invite her to join their travels after her mother's death. 2.) Am-hang-osa visit a town that has not had rain in a year thanks to evil rulers. Bitter sweet ending to this chapter. 3.) Flashback to Chun Hyang at age six as she fought for the playgound that her friends love and that holds a speical place in her mother's heart. It's rated Teenage 13+ because it has a few bloody scenes, one scene with girls bathing, and the suggestion of rape at one point. But all in all, a great one volume collection of stories by CLAMP with some beautiful artwork as always. (Though not quite as good as Tsubasa, but then again, what is?) Hope this helped you decide on buying it! ;)

good, but short,
This review is from: The Legend of Chun Hyang (Paperback)
this manga is based off of an old korean folk tale about a girl who stands up against the corrupt leaders of the villages she goes to, kind of like a zorro idea.its only one volume long, which kind of sucks. the story has a lot of potential and the characters could definitely been expanded upon, and the ending is somewhat unsatisfying because it ends with the mother hinting at and a possible continuation of the story, one that we'll never know about. also, chun hyang and the guy only went up against two corrupt village leaders, and it was stated in the beginning of the chapter that they would later get married, which was mentioned because she was a peasant and he was some higher up the social scale guy, but that relationship was barely touched upon besides a mild flirtation. the story could continue in so many ways, and should because what they give you is a beginning to a story, an introduction, but it doesn't follow through with the substantial plot it hints at becoming. but then again there are many manga plot lines that drag on and on... so i guess it could be seen as an ok thing that they didn't let that happen... overall, a good story, but an unfinished one in my eyes.

It looks like a one-shot, but where's the rest of it?,

It's titled 'Legend of Chun Hyang', and the cover is un-numbered... I picked it up because I thought it was a one-shot -- I wasn't really in the mood to be sucked into a gigantic story. If I was, I'd've probably picked up something else. However, I think there's more to this novel, especially after reading some of the text on the chapter beginnings... more things have to happen than just these three little stories in order to finish the entire tale of Chun Hyang. The art is astounding as always, and it's starting out as a cute story, though. Sure, it's a little bit predictable, but what isn't nowadays? Cute girls and overly-forward guys are all over the manga shelves. It's not that I'm not looking forward to the rest of the tale -- it's just that I'm not terribly looking forward to having to wait for it to be translated. ^^;

Very Good Book,

This is my first bought Clamp book and i'm very glad for buying it. As always, Clamp's Art is beautiful and the main guy is very hot (ponytail). It's a single book so you one have to buy the one, Altough I wouldn't mind if it was a series cuz its REALLY good. The only thing about it is that theres no kissing *pout*, thats why I gave it a four. But theres great romantic comedy between Chun Hyang and the hot guy (forgot his name). This book also has a few very sad scenes, but its all good 'cuz it makes you love the characters more. Sorry if im not making sense and sorry for my lack of grammer. But, anyway, I recommend this to anyone who doesn't collect books just for kissing scenes. Ja!
