Fun Mid-Level Difficulty Adventure Game,

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Legend of Crystal Valley (CD-ROM)
I am an over-50 Mom who doesn't have the reflexes to play a shoot-em-up type video game. I opt for adventure (point and click), puzzle and hidden object games, and I've played a lot of them. "The Legend of Crystal Valley" is a fun game, mid-level difficulty. (The other Mumbo-Jumbo games I've played have been on the easy side.) For comparison, I'd say Crystal Valley is more difficult than Samantha Swift games and not as difficult as Ravenhurst games.Crystal Valley is almost totally an adventure game. You have to find items and figure out how to use them to get to the next room or next level. It has only a couple pure puzzles, which isn't good or bad, just depends on what you like. I will say that one of the pure puzzles, about mid-way through the game, was a traditional move the marble puzzle with the twist that some marbles went backwards. I worked on it on and off for three days and could not wrap my brain around it. There's no walkthrough for this particular puzzle because the initial placement of the marbles is random. Finally, I called my 16 year old daughter down to solve it for me. How humiliating. So, maybe I should say that EXCEPT for a marble puzzle, this game is mid-level difficulty!! The story line is fun, too. It is fantastical, with talking froggy people and gnomish creatures and magic. Some of the tasks you need to complete include figuring out the right combination of magic and mechanical tools. It was very imaginative. My 13 year old son and his buddy enjoyed playing this game, too, though their favorite games are still the Mount & Blade and Sims type games. If you are new to adventure games, this would be a good starter.

A waste of money,

We are so sorry we purchased this game without first checking the reviews on it. Oddly, there is only one review here at amazon, and it is favorable! This game is from the dark ages technologically, so badly made, and the story line is absurd. I might have written such a story when I was 13. The characters don't speak -- instead, dialogue boxes come up at the bottom of the screen -- and they don't actually pick things up; rather, they woodenly bend over items and then the items disappear. The characters are badly drawn, the conversation is ESL or something -- not good English -- and along with the terrible story, we just could not enjoy this game. Don't waste your money on this one.

I play games all the time, many different kinds. And I will say, I LOVED this game! I wanted to give this game 4.5 stars.Ok, so they don't speak vocally in this game, but to me, it was no problem. I loved the story. Actually, I'm never amused or intrigued by the storylines in most games, but this one was very creative and interesting/amazing. The graphics were great! The atmospheres were so creative and amazing as well. The music in this game, I very much liked. I even looked for a soundtrack but no luck! Also I liked how you can make the main character run, if you don't feel like having her walk for awhile (either way, there's no major walking, only short walks). The characters in the game were pretty cool and unique/fun, as there were many characters. The game wasn't too hard, but it had some challenge to it. And it never made anything tedious. You always moved forward in the game and never had to go back to previous parts of the game, which I really appreciated. I never got bored or felt repetitive playing this. I highly recommend this game if you're a creative person or just want to play a Great game!
