I picked up the paperback of the first book in this series to have something to read on a long airplane ride, and from the first few minutes I was hooked! I found out about this collector's edition when I returned from my trip, and picked it up immediately, along with the second book in the series. This story of Drizzt and his struggles as a dark elf will captivate all types of readers, and will have you staying up late at night to find out what happens next.

As for the book itself: it is a beautiful edition, with a very high quality and visually beautiful dust jacket, and nice pages inside, with a very sharp and easy font to read. Highly recommended to fantasy and non-fantasy readers alike.

I just hope they release the rest of the books in the Legend of Drizzt series in this collector's Edition format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!, April 29, 2009

This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
This collector's edition of Drizzt is simply amazing.

This edition includes first three books of The Legends of Drizzt.

(For those who would like to know, Icewind Dale was released first. However, chronologically, Dark Elf trilogy is first.)

I simply enjoyed reading this trilogy... although my friends say that this Drizzt series is "immature" level among other fantasy series's. Well, I don't know. I liked it =p

The cover of the collector's editions are great. I have them covered with book jacket covers and they look like brand new all the time! Shiny!

The print in the book is good too. Very neat and easy to read. Paper quality seems/feels/looks great. Not that I know much about it, but oh well!

By the way... one thing that's missing. Maps. There is a map of the first book of the trilogy and that's it. Nothing for the second and third. Same for the rest of the trilogy in this edition.

BEWARE!! NO MAPS.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling fantasy legend - in a beautiful edition., January 5, 2009

This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
I have never played a game of D&D in my life, and although that's certainly not a prerequisite for reading a Forgotten Realms novel, the idea of plumbing the depths of such an expansive literary universe has been daunting. The Legend of Drizzt, however, has proven to be an exciting and compelling introduction to this popular world of fantasy!

This edition is simply the best way to experience the adventures of Drizzt Do'Urden. The jacket design is terrific, and even got my girlfriend interested in the story contained within.

That story, of course, is what owning this volume is all about, and it's filled with memorable characters, evil intrigue, and some of the best action writing you'll ever come across. Drizzt is, and always will be, a true legend of fantasy literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series, March 13, 2009
By

This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
I am a relative latecomer to the chronicles of Drizzt Do'Urden but was completely drawn in when I picked this one up. Salvatore does a wonderful job keeping the pace of the stories quick and exciting. They're well written and conceived; and he inserts plenty of material into the stories that serve as plot seeds for future story hooks. (As I continue reading the subsequent books, Salvatore returns to these plot seeds often).

When I first read through book one, I imagined Salvatore setting a personal challenge for himself: How does one create a society of individualism taken to the extreme (the dark elves) and in the midst of that chaotic society - that is anathema to what most believe to be good - create not just a protagonist, but a true, likable, iconic hero (Drizzt)? The books comprising the Legend of Drizzt are a very thoughtful, highly successful effort to do just that. Moreover, Salvatore was not only able to write an exciting fantasy adventure with an iconic hero, but also managed to include a good measure of social philosophy and commentary without seeming pedantic. I think that coming from such an extremely selfish, evil society, and facing the trials of prejudice and misperception are part of what makes Drizzt such a likeable, compelling hero.

Though I love the presentation of the collector's edition of these books, my only regret is that I did not begin following the stories twenty years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!, January 7, 2009

This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
I had first read the Legend of Drizzt series when I was 14 years old. I'm now 35 and decided to read it again. I loved every minute of it. R.A. Salvatore is one of my all time favorite authors. I love how he describes and develops his characters and plots. I read this (3 Book) series in 4 days. I couldn't put it down. He leaves you wanting more. Salvatore deals with many moral and spiritual questions within the character of Drizzt Do'Urden, that leave you pondering the same questions in your own life. I would purchase this book and all of the other books that relate to Drizzt. If you like fantasy, you will love this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Collector's Edition, October 13, 2008
This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
This was a very excellent book. I thought it was a great look into the drow society (kind of makes me want to go to war with them). The first book in this edition was a great introduction. The second book, Exile, was definetly the best in my view. It was definetly a page turner. I would have to say the dullest out of the 3 in this edition would be Sojourn, the 3rd one. It started out really slow, and it didnt really pick up. It had a few fights but not enough to make this as exciting as the previous 2. I am ordering book 2 this very moment and I can't wait to see what happens in our precious Drizzt's life next. All in all a very well-written book and would reccomend it to anyone who likes fanatasy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Read, and a great buy for fans of the series., July 26, 2008
This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I, The (The Legend of Drizzt) This is a great book and the cover is absolutely excellent. I bought the Collector's Edition because I am trying to build an impressive collection of fantasy books. This book follows the lead of the famous fantasy character, Drizzt Do'urden. It starts from his home and it follows his many challenges. I feel this is R. A. Salvatore's best, having read several other of his books. Drizzt is a great character everyone will love. This book holds many moral lessons, more than I felt than any other books by R. A. Salvatore. If you love action, adventure, and characters learning there way, then you will love this book.
However great a read this book was, I did not give it a 5 because it lacks an originality I find in other books. Also, the plot can often be predictable and doesn't hold surprises, mostly because the other chooses to reveal their unraveling in an obvious and ineffective way. Despite this, starting readers of Fantasy will love this. R. A. Salvatore is an average writer, but his imagination will undoubtedly capture most readers who do not enjoy vivid descpritions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!!!!!!, February 10, 2008
This review is from: The Legend of Drizzt Collector's Edition, Book I (Book 1) (Hardcover)
This wonderful edition is comprised of the first three books of the series and is made with such beautiful quality. To touch the book, to hold it in your hand, whether you're a fan or just intrested, the book will have you.
Once opened, from the very first line of homeland: "Never does a star grace this land..." and you'll be captured.
A great edition, and i can only hope the rest of the series will be done in such a manner.
