THE HAND OF GOD OR DIABLO?,
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Legend Hand of God (DVD-ROM)
LEGEND: HAND OF GOD is the newest addition to the hack-&-slash cRPG genre and it is a very good addition at that! The isometric viewpoint (with reorienting the camera and zooming options) works well and the camera handling is nothing to complain about.
The graphics are not groundbreaking but they are a couple of notches above TITAN QUEST (be sure to activate the water and shadow effects). The grass and trees feel real and they will shake by either the wind or your passing by but there is no real interaction with the environment in any way. Also, some stuttering was apparent when transitioning between areas or just before leveling up. Nothing major but I do hope that the developers address it in their first patch. I particularly enjoyed the fighting and finishing-off moves the character has in his repertoire. Although they appear randomly without depending on any special key combos, these special animated moves spice up the gaming experience (and, I for one, do not miss key combos on a PC game - leave them to console jockeys: they have the handheld controllers that make them easy). Also adding to how realistic the game appears is the care that was taken to have the character fight at the height of his opponents: fight a troll and he will be jumping to deal his sword thrusts; fight a timberwolf and he will be sweeping low. What did get on my nerves was the accompanying...Tinkerbell, serving as both pointer and unsolicited advice-dispensing fairy. For her size she surely has a big mouth! Her presence does offer some funny moments though, and comic relief is welcome in an otherwise grim cRPG. As with most cRPGs, one can choose the path of warrior, magician, woodsman and so on. I only played the warrior so far and the development of the character's abilities is in good balance with the enemies he encounters. Nothing too easy or too hard before its time (the memory of the murderous wolves encountered early on in BALDUR's GATE had me giving them a wide berth at first here as well; however, there was no need). Oh, and no, you will not be fighting the customary rats at first! All in all, a very enjoyable action cRPG. So, to answer the title question: BOTH! It will sustain us until Christmas and the 3rd coming... RECOMMENDED.

Great Game,

This game was not bad at all. The graphics are about the same or a little better than Titan Quest. The gameplay is very similar too. I played a Mage/Priest and once I got some good items and skills it wasn't too hard to stay alive. I like the little fairy light, because she will cry out when your about to die which clues you to heal or use a potion. She is good for a laugh too while you play as well as your light when in the dungeons.
The storyline is not bad and the actors are ok, but not the best. The weapons have differnt attacks and the spell effects are good. The visuals are really nice and there are some rather large creatures and bosses in the game. I dont regret buying this game new because I enjoyed playing it. I did not have any problems running it but I didnot install the directx from the CD or the PhysX software. I had both already and I heard they caused some people problems. Besides if you do need them you can download them from the internet.

I see quite a few (3 Star) ratings for this game which is just a wee bit
harsh. Graphically, the game is right on par with just about every other in this genre which is pretty good. There does'nt seem to be any lag or freezing when there are several enemies on the screen along with spell effects on high and (AA) SET TO 4x on a RES of 1024x768,i didn't want to push it to my monitor's native resoltion for fear the game would not handle it well. The story has also been done a million times before, but then again, it's Fantasy and most fantasy games pretty much share common themes, which to me is no BIG DEAL just as long as the character's,world's ect. are different, which is why this is my favorite GENRE and I'll never get tired of it, from -Wizardry to Zelda- and -Dungeon Master to Might& Magic- it's all good. Anyway's, I am yet to see any of the problems others have written about this title and for those of you who are thinking of buying it, go for it. If you enjoyed -Dungeon Siege,Titan's Quest- and other's of this type, then you won't go wrong with this one, just make sure what you run it on is at least Modern enough to handle it and the game should run fine. Here's a tip: Download the newest version of the (PHYS-X software) from (Nvidia's Website) before installing the game. Not the greatest to Hack-n- Slash to come out this year, but certainly not as bad as others have rated it. Happy Creature Hunting.

If you like Diablo, Dungeon Seige, Champions of Norah, Baluders Gate, ect, then you'd like this game. But for some reason, the game crashes a lot. The screen has frozen on me many times, and for the first time the game just shut off bringing me to my desktop screen. I have a decent computer, GE Force 9800 video card, HT Omega Striker 7.1 sound card, and a P4 3.2 Ghz, and 1.5 RAM, and I have 85 GB of free space. The game requires you to have the following specs: P4 2GHz, 1GB ram, 5 GB hard space, a sound card that is Direct X compatible, and a video card found on their website: [...]. My video card is def much newer and much more expensive then the card they state, maybe that is my problem, but I doubt it.
Anyway, good luck!

The game is very good, like Titan Quest - but better. Seems some people had problems with the release version, but that's no reason to give 1 star and change the rating the game itself deserves! With the latest update you shouldn't have any problems. I had none from the beginning.

This game is worth playing. I had some trouble getting it to work originally but once I got that figured out I was addicted. The addiction wore off fairly quickly because it's basically a linear story without much role playing.
Basically you're a guy whose home is burned down - destroyed by bad guys so you set out after them to retrieve a very powerful relic that will close the gate that the demons are entering the world through. Of course once you get all the pieces of the relic you find out that your mentor is actually the bad guy. The voice acting really sucks on this one and the story is so generic it's not even amusing. The play was still fun though, despite all that.

Similar to Titan Quest,

As with all low buget games there tends to be preformance issues. I for one don't have many. I get a few crashes here and there... But it doesn't stop me from playing. The only real issue is if you are in a dungeon and have to go 3 levels down and the game decides to crash.
This game doesn't require a disc to play or any code. Which is unheard of this day and age. I support this title for this very reason. So, lets talk about the game. First impression is Titan Quest. The graphics look so similar it is crazy. Even the game plays just about the same. But here is the differance... NPC's have good loot and quest items are awesome. Respecing doesn't cost you a billion gold per talent point either. So overall I would say this game is better then Titan Quest in alot of areas. The main draw back is that its only about 12-15 hours long. You get insanly powerful in this game and there is no multiplayer. Other then the lack of support for this game. I can't find any other cons. If you are unsure about this game, there is a demo for it. Try it out and see how it runs for you and if you like how it plays.

My game didn't bug out as much as other people had claimed theirs to be. I blindly bought this game without reading any reviews or anything, but I don't regret my purchase. When I had first installed the game it did seem a bit buggy, but as I kept playing it became smoother. The game is rather entertaining, If you like diablo, you'd probably like this game since they're rather similar in game play except for controls.
Hope this helps.

MY best RPG gaming for 2008,
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Legend Hand of God (DVD-ROM)
The U.S. reviewers and critics were much harsher on this game than need be. The game has won several rpg awards in Europe. Maybe they appreciate good action rpg's more than U.S. players
This was my funnest and best rpg play for 2008 beating out Titan's Quest, Sacred 2, and Avencast. First off, do a google search and find the beta-patch for the PhysX problem in installation experienced by some players. Second, find the savegame editor by Matthias Meissler that lets you edit and change character stats, skills, money. Previously when I played the game I was defeated repeatedly by the over-powered large green dragon. After I lost all my money, potions, and mana I ended the game not to touch it for a couple of months. But, with the editor I gave my avatar high stats, rushed through the opening scenes, defeated the dragon, then reset my avatar stats back to a more balanced approach. There is plenty of colorful and fun game play after the green dragon. One could play the game through 3-4 times to max out at level 100 or you could edit the avatar from the beginning with level 99. However, that would enable Targon (main character) to breeze through without much competition. Some of the main enemies are very tough customers to fight and defeat, though. Now here are my impressions: 1. Graphics for; scenery, swamps, caves, crypts, water, mountains, forest, deserts, monsters, ebemies, characters, and avatar all above average. Very nice. Good variety of trolls, bears, wolves, thieves, elves, goblins, hydras, a dragon, scarabs, spiders, (no rats, yeah), dwarves, modified cobra snakes, human spiders (name escapes me), etc., etc. 2. Ambient, fighting, voicing, weapons, musical background sounds very good. There have been complaints about voice-acting but apart from somewhat whimpish avatar voice the rest is appropriate and just fine. The side-kick, "Luna" tinker-bell repetitive chatter does annoy somewaht after awhile, however. She is very useful as movement/fighting cursor, light in caves, at night, and in dark places. 3. Weaponry, armor, potions, mana, spells, equipment, clothing, magic items all appropriate and fairly well-balanced. Inventory packs could be a little bigger to house more. Did find space wanting when I loaded up on potions and mana at the expense of weapon/armor variety. 4. Fighting "animation" like jumping into opponents, twirling, downward thrust, quick chops, etc. are nice touches I haven't seen before. 5. Many magic touches are very colorful and powerful. Some aren't too noticeable like extra shield and armor protection. 6. There were a couple of places when completing side-quests where there was hardly any reward or proclamation of success except for looking at the quest log and finding a line entry. I feel there should have been more fan-fare for going out of the way to complete them. Thus, I deliberately didn't complete two of the smaller and obscure side quests in the game. 7. Fairly long game if you play it through with all the side quests. On regualr setting it will likely entail 30-40 hours. With an edited avatar at about level 30 throughout the game could be completed in 20-25 hours. 8. This is definitely a hack n slash action rpg. Fighting, fighting, fighting. You will have a sore mouse finger after a few hours. Make sure you have a comfortable and fast mouse. 9. To me, right now, with good prices on this game here at Amazon, "Legend: Hand of God" represents allot of good to very-good gameplay for the money. Colorful, action-packed, great experience/adventure and neat settings will appeal to most. Give this a try. Interesting twist of events at the end. Sad ending...you'll have to play and beat it to find out. What are you waiting for.

I bought the PCDVD version of the game and after a friendly enough install, I found that I could not play the game due to serious graphics glitchs.
My system is: Vista Home Premium AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core 4gig ram 2 Radeon HD 3850 1gig vram connected in crossfire All the latest drivers are installed but the game is totally unplayable. Before you spend your money on this title, I would check the web site and see if there are any known issues with your setup. I did this but to no avail. |
