Simply the best,

Ridley Scott's Legend has had an interesting history. Not only did he have footage removed for his American release, but he also had two soundtracks. This fascinating Jerry Goldsmith score was used for Europe, but unfortunately not in the US. This is a real shame because his music is so vibrant and beautiful. Most of the music has synthesizer tones, while accompanied by instruments. However, his pieces also have lavish chiors. When you hear the first track, you will probably be hooked. He gave alot of effort here and it clearly shows. Another plus to the soundtrack, is its length; there is over 70 minutes of beautiful music here! It could be argued that his compositions are close to his Secret of Nimh and the OMEN III scores, which is true, but this score is so much better. If you can, listen to clips before buying because this cd is only available as an import.

I have grown up with the US version of the movie Legend and have become rather adamant about finding the European version and it's soundtrack. Now that I have found it (yaaay! ) I was wondering if anyone could help me find a copy of the European of the film? I would greatly appriciate it.

I want to point out a couple things Jerry Goldsmith`s Legend. Some people may think the voices in Legend sounds like Danny Elfman`s in his scores.Well when Goldsmith made this Elfman just started out but I have nothing against Elfman and he made some very good soundtracks also its just that Jerry Goldsmith is MY favorite. Also,I would not compare Goldsmith`s and Tangerine Dreams` versions of Legend because for one their both good and both are different sounding music.Neither is greater than each other.Lets face it,how many soundtracks have two different versions with two different music masters?Another thing is that when you listen to track eight(8) the faerie dance,it will most likely become your favorite on the soundtrack because it easily became MINE!It is one of Jerry Goldsmith`s best tracks he has ever done!

Even though not used in the American release of the movie, this score is one of Goldsmith's finest. Classical, almost operatic at times, with a touch of synthisizer here and there, this score is to Goldsmith what Star Wars was to Williams. Worth every penny of the price to lovers of fantasy, soundtracks, and/or Goldsmith. A must have!!!!

Pure Magic!,

I was already a fan of the movie and it's Tangerine Dream score when I found out about this rejected score by my all time favorite composer. I looked for a rare CD release for a few years, but never found it. I was so excited when I found this expanded reissue from Silva Screen. Immediatly upon hearing it, I could picture the scenes in the film the music was written for perfectly. Goldsmith had done such an overwhelmingly beautilul job scoring LEGEND, I couldn't reason why the music had been replaced. On the other hand, this magical film received two excellent scores. All the better in the end. Truly Fantastic!

Talk about an impressive piece of work. And I would concur: This would have to be Mr. Goldsmith's best to date; although, his other work should not at all be disavowed.A great disc, indeed....

This is by for one of Jerry Goldsmith`s best ablums in his 40- plus year carrer.Legend is about 72 minutes long and it has some great tunes.Legend also has voices in it which makes this score rare for Goldsmith. It has classical type singing which is pretty good and the music itself is is a treat to hear and it is amazing how Jerry Goldsmith put together this soundtrack. It is one of his most different titles yet!

This has to be Goldsmith's best work to date. A superb combination of classic symphonic orchestrations and synthesisers resulting in a timeless piece of music that would bring the listener to a realm of fantasy, romance, gothic and heroic themes. Didn't like the Tangerine Dream version that was used in the US release and so much shorter. Saw the European version and it was marvellous. The music used in the Dress Waltz sequence was excellent. A thumbs up for Mr.Goldsmith and his score for 'The Haunting' was reveting too. A genius composer for the fantasy/horror film genre.

This score should never have been rejected. It just comes to prove that the business people need to stay behind their desks and let the creative people do their job. Jerry Goldsmith did a beautiful job. One thing about his work is that none of his music is boring. Some sound familiar, but that is because of the style of the composer. Guys like James Horner only put out something good every so often, because they reuse their own work, John Williams has been known to do this as well. Jerry your the best!
