I loved the original Arcade game and I was eagerly awaiting this release. I grew up in the late 80's/early 90's and loved playing the Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man games for the NES, making this game right up my alley. The gameplay is simple but fun. I love how you can do all the cool ninja things like throwing shurikens, jumping 500ft into the air and climbing walls. This game kind of reminds me of the NES Ninja Gaiden games but set in feudal Japan.

Pros:
-NINJA'S!
-Good Control
-Solid action platformer
-Game has the Japanese in-game voices
-Unlockable techniques and artwork
-Two main Characters to chose from
-Dialouge scenes inbetween levels
-Stage select option(once levels are complete)
-Unlike the original, you actually get a life bar

Cons:
-Might not appeal to fans of more modern action games
-Game might be a little too easy for hardcore gamers
-Levels can be slightly repetitive

Overall a good solid action game. If you were a fan of the original Legend of Kage, or just want to add an old school action platform game to your DS library, you can't go wrong with this title!

5.0 out of 5 stars ninjas rule, October 22, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Legend Of Kage 2 (Video Game)
Great side scrolling old fashioned ninja fun. I'm on the 7th level so far and I think I've killed about 12,000 ninjas to get there. Its a good game for a grown up gamer like myself who has no desire to be in 1st person, 3-d, virtual reality, or whatever. Run, jump, slash punks with a sword, and take out fools w/ chinese stars. Sounds cool doesn't it? Also a good game for younger kids (my own for sure) because its not too complicated. They can run, jump, slash punks with a sword, and take out fools w/ chinese stars. Pretty easy huh?

All in all, a great game at a low price brand new. (Raise your hand if you think all DS games should be 20 bucks)

5.0 out of 5 stars Old school simplicity, with a few new twists, April 19, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Legend Of Kage 2 (Video Game)
I'm a big fan of some of the retro revival going in gaming (HD remixes, modern port anthologies, sequels/remakes, etc.) The GBA in particularly was fantastic for bringing some great games back, and I guess part of me still prefers the more simplistic old school controls and simplicity versus having to deal with fifty button combinations to go with my state of the art graphics. (I use my DSi more than my PS3.)

I never played the original "Legend of Kage" but I've played comparable games, and once you sit down with this, it will feel familiar to many of the 2-D ninja/fighting platformers of the 8 and 16-bit generation, but there are some new moves and features added to this sequel to make it appealing and challenging to current gen. gamers.

As a casual gamer, the difficulty level feels about right to me...not too terribly easy, but not insanely hard or hard to learn either. Each level is divided into sections, and if you lose all of your health, you can restart at the current section, instead of having to go through all sections of the level from scratch. You can also revisit levels you've beaten to discover all the hidden secrets, or to improve your score, etc.

This is a bargain price as you can see and as others have noted, it's not on par with the superb retro upgrade "New Super Mario Bros" but for a "modern" sequel to a retro beat 'em up, ninja adventure, it's quickly become one of my favorite games.
